While we wait for monodrone to finish explaining himself, let's turn back the clock: for May you may nominate two albums released before 1959. If nothing springs to mind there are plenty of best-of-decade lists to choose from on the internet. Please be sure we can stream it somewhere. Poll goes up in a week.

Little Walter, "The Best of Little Walter". His first album, a collection of his top-ten 50s singles, released 1958. #198 in Rolling Stone's "500 Greatest Albums of All Time"
Flatt & Scruggs, "Foggy Mountain Jamboree", their 1957 debut and a landmark.

Elvis Presley - Elvis Presley (1956). The first album, with the cover lettering homaged to by The Clash.
John Coltrane - Blue Train (1958). Has a jazz album ever won one of these things? There's also lots of pre-'59 Miles Davis, of course.

Cannonball Adderley was covered a while back and Miles' Bitches Brew won the Anniversary Club years ago.

Little Richard - Here's Little Richard (1957) - A-Wop-Bop-A-Loo-Bop-Lift-Off! (Great cover, too) EDIT - WITHDRAWN Ray Charles - The Genius of Ray Charles (1959) - In the middle of his R&B phase Ray released this collection of up-tempo horn arrangements and low-tempo string arrangements, the first of his widely electic offerings. Highlight - The King of Comedy's "Come Rain Or Come Shine." It's not PRE-1959 - Arghhhh!
Lots to like in the 50s.

OK, my replacement pick is Frank Sinatra's dark and heavy post-divorce (from Ava Gardner) torch song classic Frank Sinatra Sings Only for the Lonely (1958), best-known for "One For My Baby (and One More For the Road)" and its star in clown makeup.

I heavily considered The Staple Singers' '59 debut but hesitated because of uncertainty at the year cutoff. Still, recommended if one's looking for the swampiest, lustiest gospel ever recorded.

Here's a good album released prior to 1959. That album is 1000 gecs by hyperpop duo 100 gecs. It's much better than Elvis. You see, ganews, I've found the fatal flaw in your system. Your failure to do your due diligence and specify which calendar you were referring to has made your nomination category hopelessly broad. Because, while the good album 1000 gecs was released in the year 2019 C.E. by the Gregorian calendar, when you reckon time by the French Revolutionary Calendar, the album was released on Duodi, Prairial 12 (celebrating woundwort) in the year 227, which is quite a few centuries before the year 1959. My second nomination is the Troparion of Kassiani by the 9th Century C.E. Byzantine abbess Kassiani.

João Gilberto recently too. But no one ever comments on anything that's not pop/rock/hip-hop released after 1970. I designed this month to fail. We had conversation with João Gilberto! At the risk of being contrarian, I think this is ganews' best idea in a while and I'm excited about every album nominated.

Actually, your 1000 gecs nomination is invalid because the record was released on Iyar 8, 5779; I'm afraid that's 3,820 years too late. Ditto the Kassiani album.
