The winner for August is The Crystal Furs, "Beautiful and True". I won't be home in front of a computer until tomorrow night, so someone else can post links go Bandcamp and Spotify and so forth until then.

Let's have a listen:
"Comeback Girls" - Needle hiss says: get ready for retro. I support rock organ at all times. This is alright, reminds me of college in Athens.
"Expo 67" - A bit slower. I could do with the vocals a bit higher in the mix or double-tracked or something.
"Pretty Mind" - I like the little guitar riff that introduces each verse. "Life is so much harder / When you're a small-town martyr" is a solid line.
"Panther City Pariah" - The guitar has more presence here than any of the other track so far, which sets it apart nicely. There's also a bridge and kind of a more full sound in general, to its credit.
"Too Kind to be Cruel" - Heavy on jangle, but with welcome addition of back-up vocal and quite interludes. Tambourine is good too.
"Like You" - Listen for the title drop. These might be the easiest-to-understand vocals so far, and with the bitter lyrics I wish more than ever they were a little weightier in the mix.
"Burn Us Down" - I actually was just thinking that I would like this better if it were a little harder and faster. This titrates in a little sludge but it's still very light. Still good, but not quite Tacocat. Hey, another riff bridge.
"Hey Maxine" - You gotta have handclaps on a record like this. You just do.
"Artoria" - Hm, the instrumentation kind of blends in again. But are these vocal the Laurel Canyon sound? I can't put my finger on it.
"Drag Me Away" - This goes along like usual, then there's a little sludgey bridge. Bring that thing back over here!
"Robber Barons of Lombard Street" - Intriguing opening here: strums and distorted vocals. I want to see where it goes, but it kind of returns to mean. The track feels a little more melancholy in it which is good.
"Second Time Around' - I'm kind of out of things to say now, but punch-beats like these are a good way to end an album.
In summary, it was enjoyable enough. There are only a few tracks that really stand out from the rest here, but it's fine to have on. I could do with some more punch, but I think it'd be a fun live show. They have the tools and elements that could make even stronger tracks.

Beautiful AND true? In this economy?!
But seriously, I enjoyed this a lot. Production's tight from an editing perspective and I rocked out in the middle section.
