For January 2022, you may nominate up to two albums each from artists who passed away in 2021. Be sure to name the person who passed away. I'll put the poll up during Christmas weekend.

We already did the New York Dolls back in September, so that removes my first nomination.
Question for the commissioner: I know we usually limit this category to the musicians themselves, but since he's probably among the top five record producers ever, can we stretch the rules for a Phil Spector album (and no, not one of his early albums when he was still a performer before becoming a full-time producer)?

It would be remiss of me not to pick Charlie Watts of The Rolling Stones and Hilton Valentine, guitarist with The Animals. For the latter, we'll have the debut, The Animals. UK version, if you don't mind. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Animals_(British_album)For the former, we'll depart from the familiar somewhat and reappraise one of their least-loved albums, Black and Blue.

Franco Battiato – Sulle Corde di Aries ( 1973) Prog (but in a Krautrock way) rocker, film and opera composer, and first Italian artist to land a platinum album in his home country. I chose Sulle but his first four full-lengths (released in a three-year span!) are all pretty much unimpeachable.

I think that would be quite fair, particularly if you've got something that's really closely tied to him.

The Monkees, "Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd." RIP Mike Nesmith, just last week. My favorite of theirs (Wifemate celebrates the whole discography). Contains songs by Carol King, Harry Nilsson, and others - plus some written by Nesmith himself. A number of singles here, but my favorite is "What Am I Doing Hangin' 'Round?".

Lee 'Scratch' Perry, "Roast Fish Collie Weed & Corn Bread". RIP Lee Perry. This is the first solo album from the super producer of songs sung by himself, produced by himself.

Ramones - End of the Century (Phil Spector's final full album as producer and interesting marriage of two musical styles that should not have combined)

Lots of my top choices already taken, so I'm going with...
DMX - It's Dark And Hell Is Hot (1998). DMX passed in April of multiple organ failure after a cocaine-related heart attack.
Blackalicious - Nia (1999). Gift Of Gab passed in June of natural causes after a history of kidney failure.
