Also I got angry that they felt it necessary to revisit Obi Wan calling Darth Vader "Darth" like he did in A New Hope that one time in what was clearly just a remnant of George Lucas not actually having everything completely plotted out. Also, I still recommend Larry, now that they're up to episode 2. The rest of the Auralnauts adaptations are better, and the Kylo Reacts videos, but Larry is still pretty good. I was thinking more about the Darth thing, and it's got that feel where Obi was like 'You could have been a Jedi Master, but you chose to be a Sith slave. So I'm just going to call you 'slave', because you don't even deserve a name' I love how they turn it into an Arabian Nights thing. Get out of my house!

I finally got around to watching the last episode of Ol' Ben's Big-Ass Extreme Star Wars Bash and I think I'm done with Star Wars for the foreseeable future. I don't know why but this show as a whole and the last episode in particular made me angrier about Star Wars than any other Star Wars property I've seen. The fact that half the episode had Owen, a cat who at best had been a bit player, turn into a shotgun wielding bad-ass who held his own against that Reva lady who up to that point had been wreckin' shop on everyone. None of it felt earned. Like he literally hadn't been in the show since what? Episode 2? If you want him to feature in the climax of the series maybe have him show up in a few scenes prior to the big climax. This also goes with little Luke, someone who hadn't really shown up at all save for through binoculars with a dumb helmet on his head. I literally didn't know that kid was supposed to be Luke when he showed up to run away horror movie style from a lightsaber wielding fiend. Would it have been so hard to have put a scene or two of him complaining to Owen about wanting to shoot wamprats instead of dusting off power converters or some shit just to show the audience "This kid here is Luke...he is part of the show too and will probably be important later?" Also I got angry that they felt it necessary to revisit Obi Wan calling Darth Vader "Darth" like he did in A New Hope that one time in what was clearly just a remnant of George Lucas not actually having everything completely plotted out. Before seeing that episode it was just a thing like Luke and Leia being horny for each other that I could write off as "Well, they didn't have all the minor details worked out yet so Darth could have just been his given name rather than a title," but no, now it's a "thing" that has "meaning" like "Solo" being "alone," and it's dumb and I hate it. Fuck Star Wars. Reva was pretty fucked up already though, like Kylo at the end of Ep. 7, both of them staggering around barely holding their guts in. And Owen wrecks his leg falling off that walkway, apparently. It was still a pretty stupid sequence, though. They coulda gotten similar closure for her by just having her ambush Kenobi at the starport and then stand down and talk about how she can't go on like she is or some other stupid thing. It seemed pretty obvious that that kid was Luke, sins the Larsses don't seem to have had any kids of their own. Even 'Darth' didn't bug me too much, if you think of it as more of an epithet. Like Obi is just disgusted with not only his former friend, but with the fact that he literally isn't the same person, or even his own person, anymore. He doesn't deserve a name. He's just the Emperor's lackey, like 'Maul' and 'Tyranus' and all the other disposable Darths that came before him, and will come after him. I figure if Episode 9* didn't kill SW for me, nothing will. Some Starwarses will be better than others, I guess. Reva's Arc: Ep 1: Kill Luke Ep 2: Kill Luke Ep 3: Kill Luke Ep 4: Kill Luke Ep 5: Kill Luke Ep 6: I've found Luke. Also, I've given up. More than anything else, the fact that Obi-Wan didn't even help resolve the final conflict is what blew the ending for me. He didn't even manage to turn up on time. Pa. Thetic.

More than anything else, the fact that Obi-Wan didn't even help resolve the final conflict is what blew the ending for me. He didn't even manage to turn up on time. Pa. Thetic. The big problem with all of these interstitial stories is that they can't alter the status quo for the OT, so at the best they're fleshing out stories that are probably best left to the imagination. Clone Wars actually made the prequels better, but it took them 7 seasons. The Man-Delorean works because it isn't beholden to anything. Rogue One mostly worked because everyone was doomed from the start, and it expanded The Force past two sides of a garbage religion. Boba Fett was... interesting, but I've read better fanfic. I love the Auralnauts stuff, and Darths and Droids because they take the existing material and change the entire story while using what's already there. Creepio works as the primary antagonist. The Jedi as drugged out EDM party monsters are a blast. Even Anakin going from reluctant party animal to frustrated corporate lackey / middle management fed up with Jedi shenanigans is good. Obi Wan and Solo had their moments, but were trapped by fanservice and the need to ensure that no matter how much they moved the pieces around, they ended up in their Ep. IV positions. Reva's arc was more like 'Kill Vader' for 5 episodes, learn about Luke at the end of those, and then half ass trying to get revenge by killing the son he didn't even know about. She would have been better served if Kenobi had talked her into getting on the boat with the force sensitive kids and protecting them, but they were too invested in whatever it was that they were doing with the grand inquisitor. Tie her up with 'the path', focus on Vader and Obi Wan for the finale, and they don't have to mess with the ridiculous timing required to have the final duel and then get Obi to Desert World in time to wrap up her arc. I wish the chuds weren't boycotting Disney so hard, because I've hated the mouse house for a lot longer and I don't want to be on the same side as either. You'd think with billions of dollars to throw around, they could hire better writers to help Dave Filoni keep everything running.

Ok I haven’t felt like even internet socializing lately, but MY GOD, every single episode Andor finds a new way to punch me directly in the face.
I wasn’t as appalled by the screams of dying children as torture as lots of Tumblr seems to have been; I mean? it’s almost predictable for the Empire? Horrifying but not surprising, I guess is what I mean.
But THAT REVEAL that they never. ever. ever. release prisoners just knocked the wind right out of me. I definitely wasn’t expecting THAT. Working them into the ground so they die before they get released, sure. People dying from getting floorlectrocuted, of course. But that there’s no intention of releasing prisoners? Jesus fucking Christ.
Also my Mon Mothma fangirl heart is getting SO MUCH!!! I LOVE the tightrope(s) she’s walking, and that they’re not trying to present her as some kind of saint ITS MY JAM.
Also also just btw I’m going to assume Dedra probably went to officer’s school where they teach you specifically how to be more cutthroat and pitiless. It IS fantastic to see them going all-in on a woman high-ranked officer, and holy shit, she is actually more terrifying than Vader has ever been to me*.
*except of course in the hallway at the end of Rogue One

I always thought the Rebel "Alliance" was just a name but it seems it actually was a bunch of different groups pulling together, as the talk about all the different factions hints at. Also some of those factions are apparently rather shit if we go by Saw Gerrera, but of such things revolutions are made of. Also the people behind the show are clearly familiar with left spaces because a lot of the usual types of leftist are there: the socially awkward nerd who talks theory at the drop of a hat, the guy who thinks everyone but him is a lib or a reactionary, the limousine liberal who's barely part of the movement, the accelerationist who seems a little too enthusiastic about causing destruction, the politically incoherent jerks at ground level who maybe aren't really that committed to the ideals they're supposedly fighting for.

Echoing all of the positives. There's one thing that I keep thinking about regarding Syril Karn: I expect him to go out like Josh Brolin in No Country for Old Men. I think Cassian is going to incidentally shoot him in the last episode, as part of his escape, without ever knowing who he was or that Karn was obsessed with him. He's incidental damage we're getting backstory for. It's like if we got an origin plot for one of the Stormtroopers Leia shot on the Death Star.
I could be wrong on this, but I keep going back to seeing that where they're going with this. At one point, I thought he might get driven into the Rebellion, like Kallus on Rebels, but that's looking less likely to me now.

I absolutely adore how they took a hard left with Syril and instead of making him just a blowhard middle manager zealot type, went right into borderline incel. I don’t expect it to remain borderline for long. And I’m also a big fan of Dedra’s weaselly little assistant who is clearly gunning for her job. It’s not only perfect for a woman in power, to be undermined by a man of a lower rank, but for the Empire itself. Bix called ISB the worst of the worst, and that includes the backstabbing while clawing your way up the ladder. They’ve always said being on Vader’s ship was a fast track to promotion, but I honestly can’t imagine it’s much better at ground level.

The soundtrack to Andor is so goddamn good. Like everything else in the show it's SOOOOOO different from any other Star Wars thing but it fits the show so well.

What a finale! This season has been nothing but amazing since episode 2 or 3. Be sure to watch the mid-credits scene. Of COURSE that's what the prisoners were building, of course...but still, frickin' awesome!

I'm on a two week delay for Star Wars shows for whatever reason. I mean I get MCU TV crap the same day as America but Star Wars? Have to wait two weeks. Anyway I guess season 1 of Andor wrapped up last night so here are some thoughts I have about it.
* Liked that Mon Mothma's shitty husband is canonically a "sword guy."
* Also pretty good that her daughter turned out to be the Star Wars version of the Twitter Trad-Cath Teenager. Really showed how dedicated the producers of the show were to shining a light on every dark corner or modern fascism.
* I dug that the inciting incident, the straw that broke the camel's back so to speak, on Ferrix was an Imperial officer covering an old man robot with a cape and then flipping said robot upside down. Droids in Star Wars have kind of been portrayed as second class citizens so having everybody go buckwild because of an Imperial being a dick to a droid was probably more effective than it would have been if they'd just cracked "BIG MAN" in the face with a truncheon straight away.
* The guy who hammered the anvil to tell time was named "The Time Grappler." That is maybe the greatest character name in the history of Star Wars.
* That middle manager Space Nazi guy with an overbearing 90s sitcom mom gives me the creeps. Like in a show about institutional evil he comes across as the most evil. Like if he turns out to be a serial killer in season 2 I would not be surprised.
* I am so glad there has not been a single laser sword or space wizard in this and that the only references to the Emperor are when his cabinet are talking about how pissed off he is, or when Mon Mothma is talking about him and his political policies. Having it all be a more grounded sort of evil that the characters are forced to deal with works way better and I'm glad that they're sort of back to Vader and his shit being like the Thule Society was to Nazi Germany. Like it was a thing but the rank and file thugs that just wanted to beat people up either didn't know about it or thought it was goofy as shit.

I’ll have more thoughts later now that I’ve finally finished Andor but I rewatched Rogue One to essentially get a fix of more and I liked it a lot better this time, a lot a lot better, to the point where it’s one of my favorite things in the franchise too.
It also pisses me off that Star Wars is this good. All that talk about how TNG and DS9’s intelligence and how DS9’s serialization and moral quandaries were sort of prestige television and we get—what we get (hell, thought I’d the Bajorans multiple times of this).

Yea, there's a difference between saying Star Wars (or insert big pop culture adventure franchise here) needs to be more serious - no, it doesn't; it's perfectly fine to be space wizards and pew-pews for children if you're at least doing that well - but it's nice to have the space for something like this as well. It does kind of throw into relief just how much they didn't even bother to put any thought into the sequel trilogy though. Just rush something out to cash in on those nostalgia vibes as quickly as possible.

I'm sure some folks will complain, but I love that they structured the first episode in a way that said "yea, don't bother going back to watch Book of Boba Fett again. We got you covered"
Also, it was fun! I'm glad to have Mando, Baby Yoda, Kirkland-brand Lando, and all the rest back in my life. I think folks pushing "it will seem bad after Andor" were just making shit up to worry about.

I guess that's fair, but there was an established track record of it actually being good. I guess there were some signs of MCU-itis setting in with some of the franchise set-up they used season 2 for, but otherwise, it never really seemed like the main ills of Obi-Wan or Boba Fett really applied to The Mandalorian.

Obi-Wan’s problems were that it was obviously a movie, Obi-Wan was depressed, and the Obi-Wan series inside my head—Obi-Wan the gentleman having to adjust to rough-and-tumble Tatooine—was better.

I really liked both this week's Mandalorian and The Bad Batch. On The Bad Batch, we had another stellar episode focused on Crosshair, and the ending tied into the previous episode, and both definitely seem to be showing where the rest of Clone Force 99 is going to end up, probably to rescue Echo if/when she's kidnapped and taken there. The Mandalorian was pretty good too. Minus the weird dropping of the IG-11 plot and instead doing the "Look, here's a droid character from all the way back in A New Hope, isn't that cool?" But Din, Grogu and Bo Katan's arrivals on Mandalore were exciting, as well as the reveal that a huge freaking mythosaur is still alive in the depths!
