The theme for March is LGBT (or whatever non-straight) artists. Two nominations each, will put the poll up in a week or so.

Ugh my music collection is full of guys who embrace feminine or ambiguous aesthetics but are ultimately straight.

Ugh my music collection is full of guys who embrace feminine or ambiguous aesthetics but are ultimately straight. My collection is so full of queer people I can hardly narrow it down. Right now I'm leaning toward Dusty Springfield - Dusty in Memphis (L), Frank Ocean - Channel Orange (G), Lou Reed - Coney Island Baby (B), or SOPHIE - Product (T), but I'd still be happy if Sylvester, Nona Hendryx, George Michael, Pet Shop Boys, Magnetic Fields, Rostam, Kaytranada, Syd, Tyler the Creator, Janelle Monae et al. were chosen. EDIT: I'm definitely nominating SOPHIE - Product. I'll wait to see what others nominate before casting my second vote.

It's a rare Record Club nominations that hips me to so many artists. I'll be checking out (why hasn't that been a song yet?).

Also The Magnetic Fields, 69 Love Songs (1999), so we have a lot to write about.

Chiming in to recommend Canada's 'gay church folk music' stars, The Hidden Cameras, especially The Smell of Our Own (2003) and this gem of a single, Ban Marriage:

Brian Cook has been involved in a bunch of bands that I love and I've spent a while going back and forth as to which of Botch, These Arms Are Snakes, Russian Circles and Sumac I should pick an album to nominate from here. Ultimately I've decided to go with the one that I've been listening to a lot lately anyway:
Russian Circles - Empros

I'd be happy to nominate George Michael and Janelle Monae if you'd let me know the best albums to nominate. I only have singles of theirs.

Sugar – Copper Blue (1992) Debut album by Bob Mould’s post Hüsker Dü band, and a certified 10/10 alt rock classic
Judas Priest – Painkiller (1990) Y’know, I don’t think I’ve ever actually listened to this album but it’s well-regarded by Priest fans who stuck with them beyond the ‘80s

For Janelle I'm partial to The Electric Lady, since it has guest spots by the likes of Prince and Erykah Badu. For George Michael, Faith is the crowd pleaser, but Listen Without Prejudice and Older are also well-regarded and definitely worth a listen.
