The winner of the March new music poll is Superchunk, "Wild Loneliness", the 12th album of the band formed in 1989.

Just realized this whole time I was reading "Superchunk" but thinking "Supertramp".

I don't hate it, just *yawn*. I had been thinking to myself "nothing here sounds like it could have been recorded after the 90s", then something surprising started up, then I realized the YouTube playlist had inserted some random electronic track. I guess a sign of getting old in indie music is when you go from supporting horns to supporting orchestral strings. The most notable presence here, aside from Nasal Indie Vocal, is the drums.
Cartoon Network used to have an original programming block called Super Chunk. I wonder if some producer heard this band name and ripped it off.
That's all.

I've given it two listens thus far. Despite being from the same area, I'd never really listened to Superchunk before. I think this is pleasant enough, but also rather staid and unadventurous. Thankfully it's just 39 minutes; it would really start to outstay it's welcome if it were any longer. I'll try to come up with some more substantive thoughts after giving it a couple of more listens.
I will say that this has me interested in digging into the group's back catalog, because I suspect I'd find a lot that would appeal to me there.

I appreciate that Mac and the gang still make music. I applaud the continued persistence of Merge Records. I enjoyed seeing this band lift the crowd up at shows in Chapel Hill ca. 1994 - 1995. That said, I can't hear much that interests me in this one. I listened to the first 3 tracks, watched the video for "Wild Loneliness". I wrote some stuff down in a OneNote, then purposely deleted the tab.

Since we’re talking Jon Wurster, I can’t help myself from posting the Scharpling & Wurster “Old Skull” bit, still one of the funniest things I’ve ever heard.
I never really trucked much with the Chapel Hill scene, so this is certainly the first time I’ve listened to a ‘Chunk record in full. Nonetheless, I can at least respect Archers of Loaf and Polvo for being uncompromising in their vision. This…I have to agree with the previous comments that it’s inoffensive and completely unmemorable. It’s something I would recommend to my brother, who always throws on this sort ‘90s-ish indie when drinking beer in his backyard, a pleasant, unchallenging buzz for all (which, of course, has its value).

It kind of draws me if for the first two tracks, but then shifts into almost a parody of generic 90s indie. Nothing about the rest of it really sticks with me.

I know about Superchunk because my old band used to close out our sets with a cover of the song Slack Motherfucker from their self titled debut album so I had to listen to that and, as a result, got into that album. I still stick it on sometimes and I'm usually ok with songs from it turning up on my Big Spotify Playlist shuffle. I tried the follow-up No Pocky For Kitty at that time too but it didn't do much for me so I didn't dig any further. I know I gave their 2018 album What A Time To Be Alive a couple of listens when it came along because it's on my 'albums from 2018' spotify playlist but I don't remember anything about it apart from the cover art. I haven't listened to this one before, I knew it existed but I'd made my peace with them being a band that I don't need more than one album from. I was right to have ignored this up to now. This is so mild. It's not a million miles from stuff I might have given a chance to in ~2003 alongside the likes of Nada Surf's Let Go or Semisonic's Feeling Strangely Fine but I've moved on. The guy's voice is a struggle to get through without any instrumental thrust to hold my interest. I don't particularly like the electro/acoustic guitar mix. I can do without the piano. I do not care for the horn section. Make this be better. Where's Some Kind of Munster to defend his choice? This was a golden opportunity to expose people to a newer band at the peak of their powers and here we are being thoroughly underwhelmed by a subpar album from a band who've been plodding along for 30+ years doing nothing in particular.

Eh, this album is fine. I mainly nominated it as a placeholder, didn't expect it to win at all (I really wanted to talk about the Dr Colossus album!)
First song "City of the Dead" is definitely the standout for me – it's incrementally different from their usual sound while still sounding exactly like Superchunk (which is a positive for me since I'm a big fan of the band). Admittedly not one of their better albums, but what are you gonna do

Would people rather talk about Turnstile here? I don’t think the results of these polls are legally binding…

Would people rather talk about Turnstile here? I don’t think the results of these polls are legally binding… The people have spoken and we must honour them and their poor choices. (I nominated a band whose debut also came out in the 1990s so I'm not being completely serious here!)
