When I was 20, it was a very good year
albums released from Feb. 2003 to Feb. 2004 Give Up, The Postal Service Elephant, The White Stripes Day I Forgot, Pete Yorn Fever to Tell, Yeah Yeah Yeahs Old World Underground, Where Are You Now?, Metric Echoes, The Rapture Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, Outkast Transatlanticism, Death Cab for Cutie Chutes Too Narrow, The Shins Franz Ferdinand, Franz Ferdinand
And of course, bands that released just before and just after this period were still touring or on the radio.

Does it have to be year in which you were alive but cognizant of musical trends?

Does it have to be year in which you were alive but cognizant of musical trends? I think that would be more in keeping with Sinatra.

Does it have to be year in which you were alive but cognizant of musical trends? When I was -21, it was a very good year... (1956 did have Elvis' debut and some good jazz albums, but it also had a lot of Pat Boone, so)

Ah, too bad, because I always felt 1991 is the greatest year in music I've been alive for but I can't pretend I was aware of any of it when I was 8. In that case, I'll jump forward a decade to February 2001 - February 2002. I still spin all of these: Cannibal Ox - The Cold VeinDJ/rupture - Gold Teeth ThiefBasement Jaxx - RootyBjork - VespertineAutechre - ConfieldRadiohead - AmnesiacAphex Twin - DrukqsMouse on Mars - IdiologyAnd Low's Things We Lost In the Fire barely misses by being released in January 2001.
