There was some chatter from moimoi, Desert Dweller, and others recently that current pop music is pretty boring. But there has to be some new stuff that is good, right? For February, nominate up to two albums released since June 1, 2022. It doesn't have to be an artist's debut, but make an effort to nominate someone who is at least kind of new on the scene instead of kicking around for decades.

Lankum - False Lankum (March 2023)
The Quietus' #1 album of '23. Superb apocalyptic Celtic folk. Maybe it'll help soothe anyone still mad that Pogues didn't win.

Cherry Glazerr, "I Don't Want You Anymore" (2023). Knew them from the radio and saw them open for Yeah Yeah Yeahs, pretty cool.
Dean Johnson, "Nothing For Me, Please" (2023). "Faraway Skies" gets stuck in my head a lot. Paste: "The Seattle folk singer’s first album shines through lush instrumentation, love songs and wondrous cowboy fantasies"

All the recentish singles and stuff looks to show off their dogs. Their dogs, folks. They like dogs, their dogs especially.

A lot of my favourite new music from the last couple of years has come out of the hardcore and hardcore-adjacent scenes so I'll pick a couple of the less straight-up hardcore albums I've enjoyed:
Militarie Gun - Life Under The Gun (2023) MSPAINT - Post-American (2023)
