Summary:
Shardene gets contacts and a wire but the detail is not able to get much from her.
Stringer collects all the pagers and replaces them with cell phones. They start to clean out Orlando's at the same time the detail gets camera and a microphone into the office from next door.
Stringer and Avon go over who they can trust and who they need to get rid of.
Freamon and Prez's investigations into the money trail lead to campaign donations and a building project. They start to ruffle a lot of political feathers, especially those of Burrell who pressures Daniels to drop the case. Daniels pushes back and says he will stay on it until the wire tap authorization is up.
Wallace comes back to the projects but Stringer does not trust him and tells Bodie to kill him. Poot and Bodie take Wallace out for a last meal and then shoot him.
Avon asks D'Angelo to go to New York for a pickup. The detail puts a GPS on his car and pick him up on the highway with the drugs. He insists on talking with a lawyer and they tell him Wallace is dead. When he meets with Stringer and the lawyer he keeps screaming, "Where the fuck is Wallace?"
McNulty and Daniels go to Orlando's and arrest Avon but not Stringer.
Random Thoughts:
Well FUCK! That was depressing. I have to say I did not see that coming at all, even after they went to the apartment I kept thinking they were going to let him go. Not sure I buy the distrust by Stringer leading to this though. Sure he broke down after the torture of Omar's boyfriend, he started using and he disappeared for a few weeks, but none of those lead directly to that he is a snitch. Perhaps Stringer is being overly protective of himself and there is some tension between Stringer and D'Angelo that could be playing out as well. The "If you are going to do it..." reminded me a lot of a certain scene in Breaking Bad.
Freamon is again good police, picking up on how the building project lined up with Avon's real estate transactions from a newspaper in the trash.
Unless I missed a short scene, no Bubbles this episode, he was eyeing that twenty pretty closely last time.
With all the characters dying or moving out of the detail it does kind of feel like a wrapping up and next season could be all new characters on a new case. I am pretty sure that is not what happens but there is some finality here.
Still not sure what exact charges they are picking up Avon for. It seems to go against what Daniels was saying to Burrell but on the other hand they knew this may be their last chance before he completed all his change-ups.
