Summary:
McNulty is still on Marine duty. He accepts a bribe to tow a party yacht out of the shipping lane but to let them keep partying. Bunk is still working on the Gant trial, he tries to get McNulty to help find Omar but he does not. Daniels is working the evidence room and some evidence for the Gant trial has gone missing.
Bodie goes to pick up a drug car but the drugs are missing. Thanks to Stringer being extra careful having Bodie tailed and recording the mileage he knows it was not anyone on his gang that took the drugs. Stringer goes to talk to Avon in prison since they have paid but not received their product.
McNulty finds a woman's body in the water. The detective figures it is a jumper from the bridge and Rawls pushes the case to the County PD because it was found on the wrong side of the bridge. McNulty figures out the tide and currents and also notes that the woman was not wearing a coat and had defensive wounds. Since it was a murder that happened on the other side of the bridge, the County gives the case back to Rawls who is impressed at McNulty's ability to still fuck with him.
The dockworkers are introduced and shown to be involved in some smuggling. They buy a stained glass window for the church that highlights the docks before Prez's father-in-law can get another window that highlights the police.
Stringer meets with the lawyer for their New York connection who says they are having their own legal trouble and is worried that it may be tied to Avon's light sentence.
Nick and Ziggy go to meet the Greek to arrange details of the next shipment. But when it arrives the Greek's men refuse to pick the container up. The dockworkers attempt to hide it in the stacks but the dock police officer finds it. When she looks inside she finds several dead young women.
Random Thoughts:
Upon first seeing the opening credits, I thought, holy shit! McNulty IS getting his own Miami Vice-type show, complete with Russian mobsters.
I was getting pretty fond of the first season version of the song, may take me a while to get into this version.
A lot of new characters here, but they did a good job of quickly introducing them. I kept thinking I knew the dock cop from somewhere but I could not place her until I looked her up. Holly from The Office!
I assume the docks, the Greek and the New York connection all tie back to Barksdale in some way right? Otherwise we are in for some wildly divergent plots.
So no Bubbles, Carver or D'Angelo this episode. I suppose with a cast getting so large we are going to be seeing more of main characters skipping an episode or two. Game of Thrones has managed to make that work so I don't see a real problem with it.
