What is it?
Space Ghost Coast to Coast is a cult animated series which aired on Cartoon Network from 1994-2003. It pretty much set the groundwork for all future Adult Swim programming. It focuses on forgotten 60s cartoon superhero Space Ghost as he tries to run a talk show with two of his former enemies (Zorak plays with the houseband, Moltar is the director). He interviews celebrities in manners that range from incompetent, to indifferent, to openly contemptuous. It's highly quotable, very strange, and absolutely hilarious.
When will reviews be posted?
They will be posted every Wednesday (starting on November 13), at some point between 7 and 10 PM EST. Please note that episodes will be reviewed in no particular order, because watching and reviewing Space Ghost in order would be rather pointless, due to the lack of continuity from one episode to the next. The first episode I'll review will be "Edelweiss", where Space Ghost interviews Beck.
Availability
Volumes 1 through 3 are available to order on Amazon and from disc service on Netflix (they're not available on Instant, however). But Volumes 4 and 5 are trickier matters. They were only sold on Adult Swim's website, and now that the Adult Swim store is no more, they can only be found being sold for absurd prices online. Fellow AV Clubber Craig J. Clark was nice enough to send me his additional copy of Volume 5 for free, and I bought Volume 4 on Amazon for a relatively reasonable price (i.e. not $120), but you most likely won't be so lucky unless you ordered them a while ago, or you have a region-free DVD player, as the Australian versions of the DVDs can be found reasonably-priced on eBay. So, I'll try to stick to the first three volumes for the time being. A few scattered episodes are available online.
Why should I do this?
You like to laugh, don't you? Well, SGC2C is a proven source of laughter and potassium.
Commitment
There are about 60 episodes that are easily available for you to watch (more for those who own The Lost Volumes), and I'll try and cover them all, pointing out various recurring elements, funny jokes, all that. It can't be too analytical, so I'll keep things light.
