Just finished watching last nights episode and I have a few comments.
Scorpions, get your shit together man!
Those politicians literally need an English lesson.
And poor Rock and Roll Washington, John didn't need to snap at you just because some American douchebags decided to influence Uganda's laws on homosexuality. Same goes to you break dancing Lincoln.
As for my over all grade for the episode, it is still at WHERE'S MY FUCKING BUGLE!?! I hope with John taking a week off that he'll get in a Bugle, cause if not there will be consequences!

I'm just disappointed that 'The Rainbow Belongs To God' has been pulled from youtube. That looked hilarious.

It does look like that video could be massive amounts of wtf crazy. I wish I could at least find the lyrics to it but google isn't helping me with that and to be honest, I don't care enough to put a huge amount of effort into it.

Okay, well I didn't appreciate the pointless dump on Japan tonight. Violent anime and girl-group pop? Pretty lazy.
The Japanese government changing a 70-year policy of pacifism, and the citizens protesting the change? It's a slightly less lazy joke to juxtapose that to the large faction of war-supporting Americans.

^That may not have been the episode's strongest point, but the rest of it was pretty much gold. I'm off to think of some better CIA tweets.

Yeah, there haven't been many missteps at all, and that one stuck out even more as the lead-off.

I wasn't feeling this episode at first as it worked its way to finding the funny in Gaza and the plane shot down in Ukraine.
But that entire prison bit - complete with singing Muppet climax - was pure gold.

There is one thing that bugged the shit out of me (and it had nothing to do with John Oliver - for the most part, I think he should have hit the President harder on this - or the show in general, but President Obama.)
Him going up to a group of historians and asking what's the best way to reduce income inequality in this country without being accused of class warfare. I know it's the President and all, but if I were one of those historians, I'd say "WHO FUCKING CARES?" It's nice to care about public opinion if it's a clear majority, but if that were the case, action would have been taken to limit gun possession and continue net neutrality (not that I really blame Obama for the former.) This is not a clear majority, it's a bunch of scared assholes who are able to broadcast their voices wherever they want, so it just seems louder than it is. It's clearly one of the biggest issues in this country and one that will NOT have a happy ending if we continue ignoring it, and history will blame him if his trepidation of a meaningless conservative buzzphrase keeps him from taking meaningful action and things continue to go downhill. Geez, worry about the future of America, not the reactions of Roger Ailes' smug fucking sock puppets. Presidents who are remembered fondly and factually in history are because they were not afraid to step HARD on the toes of those who were in the wrong and holding the country back.
It's like John was saying about climate change and those who are "skeptics" or deniers: "Who gives a shit? You don't need people's opinions on a fact." The inequality in this country is harmful. Obama could choose to let the words get to him, or he could try harder to address it (and this isn't me trying to downplay the fact that it must be difficult, and that there are barriers beyond words to tackling big problems.)

Probably my favorite episode yet, just because of Chris Cuomo is an asshole. Anyway, my favorite lines! Hitler was a real nazi about intellectual property rights. Is there anyone who is both into anti zionist conspiracy theories and smooth jazz? Do you know how difficult it used to be to get coyote urine? That is the equivalent of needing a babysitter and hiring a dingo. National spelling bee, the hunger games of the mind....... DAMN STRAIGHT! BEE DAY MUTHA FUCKAS!(Okay, that last part was me) The white supremacist jazz ensemble was wonderful. It seems like a minor thing, but what I like about it is that it doesn't feel like there's any filler. No hateful Daily Show theme intro, no initial mugging, no inside jokes with the audience, and other nonsense that seems to go on forever and is just painful to get through. It's just: bang, bang, bang, show over. I realize that's probably due to the fact that he has less time to fill. I admire Stewart and Colbert a lot, it would be foolish to deny their talents, but I find both trying to watch for different reasons. With Stewart, there's a lot good satire but too frequently interspersed with, say, the word "cock (tee hee!)," spitting out his water, joking about how spitting out his water is a silly schtick, more mugging; none of which I every enjoyed by which, over the years, really gets irksome. Oliver has cut a lot of that out, at least in the episodes I saw. I have even more difficulty with Colbert. He's brilliant and frequently hilarious, but he's parodying a deeply unpleasant and obnoxious person and sometimes he does it too well for me. There again, there's too much BS at times for my taste, like the rah rah intro, which I understand the purpose of, and I'm sure is fun for the studio audience, it's just annoying to me as someone sitting at home. So I like that Oliver seems to have eschewed some of that.

Lemminkainen So it is. So it is. Well that was... weird. THE RAINBOW BELONGS TO GOD UNTOUCHED BY EVIL DESIIIIRES Is as close as it gets to directly referencing homosexuality. Mostly there's a lot of passive aggressive stuff referencing Noah's Flood and saying how dare anyone claim the Bible doesn't say God totally called the rainbow his thing. And then NEXT TIME IS FIIIIIIIIIRE. And then JESUS HAS HIS ROYAL RAINBOW REIIIGN... Bwahahaha.

I'm fairly disappointed in that song. I somehow expected it to be a little bit more crazy pants and direct. However, Royal Rainbow Rain nearly makes up for most of the boringness that game before it, holy shit that was a funny one.

The place I'm staying in in MA doesn't have HBO, so I have to wait until tomorrow to see tonight's episode. And no, I don't want to update my fucking Flash player, I just want to LIVESTREAM IT. I AM A GOOD CITIZEN, I do not illegally download things, can't you spot me this once, Internet? Sigh. I was really looking forward to seeing John's perspective on all this (and according to FB, he's heavily hinting he'll cover what's going on in Ferguson, both specifically there and general problems with police brutality and power.)

Carade As did John Oliver's spot on observation about how many people had to die before she became President. Are you suggesting that millions of Americans would have to die for Hillary Clinton to have a successful campaign for 2016? Because I'm very alright with that. Perhaps they can all die at a concert with crazy Russian motorcycle stuntmen and Steven Seagal.

It took forever for this ep to show up on On Demand, but that segment on military equipment being sent to local police was unsettling. Just the subject of how the cops were holding the guns alone, was scary.

I can't believe the State Department is trying to fight ISIS recruitment with sarcasm. I really wonder how many people that will actually end up recruiting. That British example about Hitler is exactly why you don't do that!
As for for profit schools. They need to seriously be fucked with a rusty razor blade covered dildo in their favourite orifices.
AND FUCK YOU RUSSIA FOR LETTING THOSE FUCKING SPACE FUCKING GECKOS DIE! FIRST UKRAINE NOW THIS!?! YOU'RE ON SOME SERIOUSLY THIN ICE YOU FUCKING VODKA DRENCHED VODKAS!!!
