Summary:
Greggs starts work in the Homicide division under Landsman with Freamon. She is hazed a bit but then gets assigned a real homicide by Burrell as a way to get back at her and to slow down the investigation of the murdered witness.
Marlo loses a lot gambling. He takes it out on a convenience store security guard, stealing some candy and daring him to confront him. Proposition Joe tries again to convince Marlo to join the Co-op with no success so he tells Omar about the poker games.
Cutty is hired as truant officer for the school but is disappointed that they only need to get the kids there one day a semester.
Mayor Royce holds his own poker game where the donors deliberately lose to him in order to bolster his war chest. Carcetti talks to a group of black religious leaders who are initially wary of him but seem appreciative of his humbleness and willingness to talk to them.
Michael takes care of his younger brother and agrees to go to a boxing match with Cutty but refuses to engage with him.
Randy is caught with his stolen hall passes and is accused of tagging.
Bunk gets drunk with Freamon and McNulty does not show up. Freamon wonders where Marlo's bodies are while Snoop and Chris dispose of the security guard's body.
Omar and his partner hold up the poker game with Marlo. Marlo tells Omar this is not over but Omar says he can find Marlo's people easier than they can find him.
Random thoughts:
I started out thinking that Greggs would jump right on the homicide case and surprise everyone but she does look pretty dazed as Bunk goes through the first crime scene rattling off acronyms and assignments.
I loved the interplay between Marlo and Omar, especially as Omar took the ring that Marlo had taken from the guy Omar had robbed last episode. Omar really should have just shot him though. Marlo is just a sociopath.
