Summary:
Thanks to some well placed road atlases Omar turns the tables on his would be shanker in jail. His protectors joke that they should kill him for a 5 figure bounty. They tell him Marlo is the one who put the bounty on him. Omar contacts Bunk to call in the favor the police owe him from being a witness in Bird's trial. Bunk convinces the prosecutor to get him moved.
Greggs figures out the witness was killed accidentally by a ricochet from several blocks away.
Carcetti meets withe the mayor and later with Watkins and his campaign manager. He is interested in getting Burrell out but they point out that getting rid of a black police commissioner might not be the best first move for a white mayor. They lament that there are no higher level black officers to take the position, but Carcetti notices Daniels doing a lot of good work.
Pearlman is offered the Violent Crimes Unit by the new state's attorney who admires her guts in going with Freamon's warrants.
Marlo steals the police camera on advice from Proposition Joe. Herc tries to track it down and Carver gives him Randy as possibly having info on Marlo but Randy is not able to tell them much.
Colvin's special class is not making much progress, but Prez has figured out a way to teach math using the odds in dice games.
Random thoughts:
It appears that Rawls may have unknowingly screwed himself out of the commissioner job. Royce may have been able to move him up once he was tired of being blackmailed by Burrell but Carcetti cannot because he is white. Rawls has always played with that line between doing the right thing and toeing the political line. I wonder if he understood this when he gave Carcetti the tip about Watkins.
If Colvin still had his position, would Carcetti have targeted him for the commissioner job or would he still be too hot from Hamsterdam? I also wonder if Daniels' past will come back to haunt him. I don't think we found out yet if his wife won or not right?
I really thought Cutty was going to get shot when he stepped in to protect Namond. I see bad things coming down that pipeline.
Generally I get a bad feeling because things are going pretty well for several characters right now. I am far enough into the series to realize that the back half of the season tends to re-balance the scales.
