Summary:
Poot is back and immediately Herc is harassing them looking for Little Kevin. He is not able to find him until Bubbles helps, but then of course he neglects to help Bubbles and accidentally reveals Randy as his source.
Carcetti gets some push back in his first council meeting. But he is able to get Daniels and Valchek promoted.
Prez is frustrated when he has to teach grammar for the test even though he was making progress with his math. He compares the stats manipulation to what he had seen with the police.
Colvin has the special class work in teams to make a model. Namond gets his team to work together and Colvin takes them to dinner. But they are overwhelmed by the how out of place they feel and revert back to anger when the dinner is done.
Proposition Joe turns Andre over to Marlo.
Omar is released from jail and Bunk gets him to agree not to kill anyone. He starts to scope out Marlo though.
Michael considers going to a teacher or social worker about his step father but Dookie advises against it, saying he and Bug could end up in different group homes. So Michael goes to Marlo.
Random thoughts:
I have not really talked about how the title of each episode plays out in the individual stories, but this one really stood out to me. Of course we have the corner kids in the nice restaurant, but every character seems to be either changing places or being reminded of where they should be. Carcetti at the council meeting, Greggs at her ex's, Valchek, Daniels and Pearlman are getting promoted while Michael meets with Marlo.
I thought for a little bit in earlier seasons that Herc was going to play against character and turn out to be a better cop than Carver. Remember when he passed the test without studying? Oh well, guess he is just another lunk now if not quite as execrable as Colicchio.
Interesting to compare and contrast the corner kids going to the fancy restaurant with D'Angelo taking his girlfriend to one in season 1. It shows that even if they become successful and have money it is very unlikely that they will ever fit in to that world. He expressed some of the same fear and anger.
Really painful but nice moment when Carver and Cutty are talking about Namond. Cutty tells Carver that he is Wee-Bey's son. Initially Carver laughs as you would when you realize you both know someone, but when Cutty starts to talk about being partners with Wee-Bey both of their faces fall as they realize how much on opposite sides they used to be.
