So Idiocracy generated perhaps a meta-form (read: plausible parody) of memetics, considering it's a comedy that uses cultural transfer and evolutionary biology as its main girding for plot development. I'd like for us to look at a test-tube parent to the child that gave us Brawndo.
Americathon (1979) - A comedy troupe named The Firesign Theatre is responsible for this.
- If you know what The Firesign Theatre is and you've never seen this flick, get on it - NOW!
- If you are unaware of The Firesign Theatre and you've never seen this flick, get on it now.
- If you have seen this film and know of The Firesign Theatre, why haven't you made a thread like this one?
- If you are unaware of The Firesign Theatre and you've seen this film, you need to be better than you are.

I've actually had this film for a while, but I haven't seen it in full yet. I'll do that this week.

I've actually had this film for a while, but I haven't seen it in full yet. I'll do that this week. I go on record as saying this is Harvey Korman's finest hour. It earns Peter Riegert an additional Lifetime Pass in addition to remembrances of Animal House. There are a few cameos that make this worth one's while.
I subconsciously made mention of this film near the United States' 238th anniversary of its publishing a revised form of a Declaration of Independence. The mention serves this anniversary well, and I have changed the title of this thread in accordance.

*argle-bargle* "test-tube parent" *argle-bargle* had read the wiki-entry for Idiocracy that pointed to its origins as the Kornbluth story *argle* just trying to float my recently enjoyed comedy films of which there are desparately few *bargle*
*diplomatic air* Of course, I do recognize your efficacy in riling my vindication. Well done, and reference duly noted.

[Speaking in a joking tone that references many conversations overheard at or near a NY bodega] Complainant - Dis. Dis fucking guy. I only knows him from the innernet. HE goes and says he's gonna watch a movie I really like, and that he will let me know his opinion about said film at a later time. Thing is, he never does. Oh, he may have watched it, certainly, but did I hear about it? No and no. Complaisant listener/bodega owner - Yes, that is some fucking guy, huh. You want Lights or Regulars this time?

Hey, guys. It's been a while since I stumped for this flick, Americathon. But, damned if it isn't some of the most prescient, political comedy committed to celluloid. Even if the work as a whole is wholly uneven.
Stuff I love about this film.
Chief Dan George as Billionaire Sam Birdwater, "Hey, a guy's gotta eat too!" National Indian Knitting Enterprises (NIKE). So many swooshes in this flick. Harvey Korman as Monty Rushmore. Guy's a pro. More Headley LaMarr moments than Blazing Saddles. Favorite moments: cavorting in boxers, Richard Schaal as Jerry. Guy was a master of physical comedy. This film, particularly the State of the Union address and being sworn in, displays his mastery. John Ritter as President Chet Roosevelt. Zane Buzby as Moulin Jackson. I defy you to see any other performer than Lady Gaga, should anyone choose to watch this fine work from the future director of Surf Ninjas.
Ephemera from the wrap-up at the end:
Disco Boys

I saw this in the theater when it first was released. Haven't seen it in many years, but remember it fondly, if hazily. I didn't know it was created by the Firesign Theater. That explains a lot. I need to re-watch it again.

Watched this again. It's my mid-life Caddyshack. Oxymoronic? No. Moronic? Perhaps.

I'm disappointed. I was expecting this to be a thread in which you ask for classic movies to watch on the Fourth of July.

Return of the Thin Olive Duke, no reason you can't start such a thing and include this fine film as an opening night showing at the American Cinematheque in Los Angeles! DO IT! as Henry Rollins once advised when he parroted Mick Farren. Yuri Petrovitch, I kinda fall away from most of their film and TV work, because my memory of their funnies revolves around their LPs. However, I know what you refer to.
