Summary:
Bubbles struggles to stay clean and find something meaningful in his life.
McNulty struggles with his regression to type.
Marlo's crew start to clean up some old business now that the police are not watching. Michael is assigned to watch the back door during a shooting but lets a small boy get away.
The ambitious guy at the newspaper may be faking a story about a kid in a wheelchair but Haynes is overruled.
Marlo tries to get in contact with Vondas through Sergei but is intercepted by Avon who figures out what is up and asks for a cut to help Marlo.
McNulty and Freamon try to get the FBI to help with the Marlo case but they have been blacklisted.
McNulty fakes a strangulation in an overdose case and says there is a serial killer loose. Bunk wants no part of it.
Random thoughts:
I loved the interactions between Marlo and Avon in prison, plus "hi Boris"
I cannot recall right now whether it is McNulty or Freamon who has pissed off the FBI, both probably. Or is it blowback for Carcetti?
I like the parallels between the newspaper and police, but at this point it is like of course they are run the same way as the police and schools. Gus is 'good newpaper'?
Not sure where McNulty is going with this, but I am glad I was justified in my season 4 dislike of his sober sneer. He is not 'good police.'
