The cheapest sort of pride is national pride; for if a man is proud of his own nation, it argues that he has no qualities of his own of which he can be proud; otherwise he would not have recourse to those which he shares with so many millions of his fellowmen. The man who is endowed with important personal qualities will be only too ready to see clearly in what respects his own nation falls short, since their failings will be constantly before his eyes. But every miserable fool who has nothing at all of which he can be proud adopts, as a last resource, pride in the nation to which he belongs; he is ready and glad to defend all its faults and follies tooth and nail, thus reimbursing himself for his own inferiority.
- Arthur Schopenhauer

"You are a brave soldier. Soon we will need brave civilians. In the new Germany, if such a thing is allowed to exist, there will be need for builders, thinkers...Let me make this my final order to you: you will search out and contact all of these... 'better people,' you call them? And together you will take on the responsibilities of survival."

"At the end of four or eight years we're going to compare the number of whistleblowers the Trump DOJ prosecuted compared to Obama, the amount of people deported, the amount of people killed by foreign air strikes, etc. And the numbers may be higher or they may be the same, but there's no longer gonna be a guy going out there and making charming videos and being like 'I, uh, I enjoy Jay-Z,' the insanity is going to be right there in the open, it's gonna be a guy just going out there and fucking screaming about TV ratings and piss." - Felix Biederman

'Nationalism is an infantile disease. It is the measles of mankind.' -Albert Einstein isn't neasles the measles of mankind? I suppose . . . stupid Einstein. Maybe the translation's at fault?

isn't neasles the measles of mankind? I suppose . . . stupid Einstein. Maybe the translation's at fault? I don't speak German, but according to Google translate, "mankind" translates into German as "Menschheit", which can also be translated into English as "humanity". And "[Nationalism] is the measles of humanity" makes a bit more sense, I think. So, probably the translation's fault?

"Man, I sure saw a lot of vaginas today." -one of my sons, as we were leaving the Women's March did he see vaginae or vulvae? no matter, i guess, as long as he didn't use the p-word; you're already swimming against the tide. Technically vulvae, but he didn't see anything that wasn't made of felt. There were lots of hats and costumes.
