A guy comes along. He heals the sick, criticizes the wealthy and suggests that we all be nice to each other, and so the Romans strung him up. And the moral? Well, you didn't have to be a genius, did you? And that, judging by the results over the intervening centuries, had been the lesson they'd taken to heart. Screw the sick, suck up to the rich, stomp on your neighbor and you'll avoid the gallows. Just common sense, really.
- Tom Holt, The Management Style of the Supreme Beings

“Get away, you boaster,” replied the honey. “I taste good without you.”

"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."
Litany Against Fear -- from Dune by Frank Herbert.
it's a sublime work of science-fiction, and one of the few that I would hands down recommend to anyone, even those who don't care for science fiction in the slightest.
it's an utterly transcendent work, and I'm not sure why I haven't bothered reading the core sequels (aside from having been told that they're not as great as the original masterpiece).
I have no tattoos, but this is on a very short list of things I likely wouldn't regret tattooing on myself -- specifically, the second line of the mantra.
(is the etiquette for this thread to just post the quote or can I comment a bit? fuck y'all. I'm editorializing and debating whether I'll get inked someday. #dealwithit <3 )

Several of my tattoos are designed as reminders to myself.) OK, back to Great Quotes.

I find that encouraging. idk if I'd do the whole thing, but I'd certainly leave space for it, if that was warranted? ideally I'd like to put the line somewhere I can refer to it easily. people are pretty cool about tattoos nowadays, but I'm guess wrist ish area may be a bit much (and I don't wanna wear long sleeves unless absolutely necessary)

"Yo, me and my boys, we love being in a clawfoot bathtub together, washing each other off. Me and my homies, we're always tryna move an anvil for a rich woman and dropping it on our feet. Me and my fucking crew? We drink a fucking bottle with three Xs on it and before you know it, yeah, we're wearing overalls and playing washboards. That's what me and my fucking entourage do."
