So despite my total failure to get a game of Castle Ravenloft going, I was unable to stop myself from buying a mint-in-box used copy of The Legend of Drizzt when I found it at my local used bookstore for $20. I have at least extracted a semi-firm promise from 2/3rds of my "gaming group" to get together Saturday and FINALLY PLAY SOMETHING DAMMIT the one person who kept whining that they'd rather be playing Yahtzee . Who comes to a game night wanting to play yahtzee? I have nothing against yahtzee but it's definitely a "rainy day at the cabin and we're bored" game.

I'm so glad X-wing Miniatures has an alternate art card prize for Corran Horn. The best reason to use my favorite ship, the E-wing, deserves a prize, and you bet I'll be hitting up a tournament to get him for my very own. I do, but the guy who sold me the game warned me to play a bunch first before I come to one of their nights as they aren't very newbie friendly. (Which is too bad because I otherwise really love that store) I'd say play a few games, say around half a dozen, sticking with the same list for at least three of them. These can be in person or online via VASSAL. Most folks are cool with new folks.

After attempting Star Wars Armada, I can say I'm immensely hooked. Resisting the urge to buy is...difficult.

So a friend of a friend made a game, and it's tons of fun! It's called Superfight, and it's kind of like Cards Against Humanity/Apples to Apples, except with superheroes/villains. You draw character and ability cards from the decks, and put them together to try and defeat someone else's combo by arguing why yours would win...but there's random elements too! For example, last time I played, one person played The Grim Reaper with A Jetpack...and randomly drew "Has delusions of grandeur". She was defeated by Abraham Lincoln (back from the dead, so he had no fear of death) in a helicopter! Superfight! There are a bunch of expansions as well. If you do check it out, please let me know so I can pass on feedback to the creator!

Hey ABz B👹anaz , I talked about Superfight last year (though admittedly, not a glowing review). To be clear, this "review" was after playing three rounds at the booth on a convention floor. We weren't convinced to buy, but I do believe this could be a good party game. Superfight
Superfight is a party game that aims to take the zaniness of something like Cards Against Humanity, give it direction, and put even more of the onus on the players to make it fun. Here's how it works: two players compete at a time, with the rest of the group acting as judge. In the base game, there is a character deck and an attribute deck. Each player draws a character and an attribute. It could be something like, "Ghandi + Tentacle Arms" or "Richard Nixon + Diaper Rash." Once they have their combatants, the players argue over who would win in a fight until one player concedes or the judges declare a winner. Separate expansion decks add locations, special circumstance, R-rated cards and G-rated cards. Sometimes you can draw extra attributes. There's a lot of room for creativity here, and perhaps over beers when I'm feeling a little looser I would have more fun with it, but ultimately I found it more "neat" than really fun. Plus, if you're in a large group, only two players at a time. (Although I guess you could have larger battles, no reason why not.) It is fun when you draw something really synergistic. Like my favorite that I got to play, "My Significant Other, Pregnant ... and 30 ft. tall" And then this year at the same convention we played their new game, Red Flags, which I like better. Red Flags - from the makers of Superfight!, which I mentioned last year, comes yet another variant on the basic Apples-to-Apples/Cards Against Humanity social card game. In Red Flags, two or more players are tasked with setting up the perfect date for the round's judge. There are two decks, white cards and red cards. The white cards are positive qualities - "good listener", "owns an island in the Bahamas", "is Ryan Gosling" - and the red cards are really big red flags - "is never not covered with ants", "has slept with one or more of your parents ... recently". Every round the players draw a number of white cards and red cards. First each player selects two white cards they believe add up to the judge's perfect date. Then after all the dates are setup, each player plays one red flag on the date to their left. So, you're goal is to play the perfect deal-breaker on the other player's date. The judge picks which date they want to go on, and if it's yours, you win the point. Repeat until tired. We bought this. We also bought the "dark red flags" expansion, which has more adult-themed red flags. We played it in one of the lines and had a good time with it. I like that - as with Cards Against Humanity but unlike Superfight! - the game is more in how well you know the other players. It's not just about a good date, it's about a good date for that judge. About knowing when to a play a red flag even when you believe it to be mild, because you know that particular judge will be repulsed. (For example, when playing with Mrs. Snape, always go with body horror if you can. She'll date a bad person as long as that person isn't gross.) And like similar games, there are always big laughs to be had when the perfect synergy of cards comes out. By example the very first round we played, demoing the game at the booth with me and the dealer making dates for Mrs. Snape, the dealer played a date who had a million dollars, and the red flag I played was "Owes the government a million dollars." Just love it when it works out like that. It's a fun game to play with a group you know well.

Yeah, we talked about Red Flags a bit after playing Superfight, and it sounds like a ton of fun too.
We were playing Superfight with the Green Deck expansion, which adds a lot of G-Rated cards. The guy who hosts the game night insists on playing the various game types and expansions in "order" until they've all been tried out, then if we play again after that it'll be more freeform. So next time we play we'll be trying the Red Deck, which is the R- to X- rated addition.

Does anyone paint miniatures? I'm loving it, though I'm finding that obtaining the right consistency of paint is difficult.

Haven't had the time/energy to invest in it for several years though. What type of paints are you using? And what type of miniatures? I've found the Apple Barrel paints from Michael's are pretty decent for acrylics, and with a spray-on primer coat the consistency is good. (The Games Workshop Citadel paints are good quality, but the prices are insane.)

I'm still having trouble with thickening and pigment, but I'm getting better.

I brought my old N64 over from my dad's house. Didn't find Rogue Squadron, though. I never did beat "Escape from Fest."
EDIT: Wait, I posted this in Video Game Talk; what's it doing here?

I can't remember where I got held up, but I'm pretty sure I never beat that game. I was never very good at flying combat games of any stripe.

I finally got to play Mysterium and it was even better than I expected (and I had really high hopes)! My regular game night meets once a month and we're only 3 "months" into Pandemic Legacy. We only have time for some light games (with kids) and then a round or two Pandemic each month, so it'll probably be a while before we're really delving into Mysterium. I need to retire. Sigh.

I went to the local game store's tabletop day thing on saturday. Unfortunately my time was limited and it was super crowded so there wasn't really any space to unpack a game and put the "players wanted" sign up during the couple hours I had. (As usual I had four things on a single day after being completely unbusy the previous two weeks ) Sadly I couldn't stay for their ticket to ride tournament later on as they had some kind of neat looking replacement train sets as prizes for whoever won a round with the final 3 getting some $$$. I really really wish the store would either see if they could rent a bit of extra space in the church and/or limit the number of tables for super gigantor games that take up a 6-8 person table even if only two people are playing. Star Wars Rebellion being a big culprit here as two giant tables were filled with only 4 people playing. There were a bunch of other games that I really wanted to try... oh well, maybe at the next one. I played: Machi Koro: Cute game, good for a quick spin or for more casual board game fans. Seems like something that might be worth picking up for the "Well the game's set up but we're waiting for steve to show" moments. Colt Express: Bandit train robbing game with an adorable little cardboard train you put together. Playing with the right kind of people this could be super fun, the randos I played with were nice but only one of them was really good competition. Also I joined after they'd supposed read the rules but none of us knew that different characters had different special abilities until my character's skill had been wasted for 2/5 rounds whereas they all had things that were always useful.

Has anyone played Formula D?
The box art/look of the game is super appealing to me but have never seen anyone playing it at one of these things.

I can't shake this feeling that it won't be nearly as much fun as the box makes it seem like it would be. The game box makes me think that I'll open it up and suddenly, I'll be playing real-life Katamari, complete with soundtrack. The game inside can't possibly live up to that.

I first played it a couple months ago but was fairly drunk, this time pretty confirmed my opinion that it's a bit light on strategy for more serious game players but it's definitely something I can pull out if the parents are over.

This is super late, but why the heck is Corran Horn associated with the E-Wing? Wasn't that like one small comic series out of everything? He should get a Corsec painted Xwing I ended up buying Colt Express it was fun and I can definitely see it being a gateway game for some people and something cute enough that you can play funzie games with younger people or nastier strategic games with older folks. plus that train is so cute!

Rogue Squadron did use E-wings during the resurrected Emperor's assault aboard the Super Star Destroyer Lusankya. In game he uses an E-wing because the T-65 has plenty of pilots ;3

True, but FFG said "eh, fuck it, we need more E-wing folk". And frankly I don't blame them. E-wing is cool, but a tough nut to crack.

So we played a round of Colt Express (the train) and I was doing super super good until the last round where I was banking on getting the $1000 bonus for going all hog wild with my pistol but there was no one to shoot my last bullet at. Combine that with being penned in and not getting the cards to move elsewhere and loot anything and I basically just spent the whole sitting in place watching another dude go gangbusters and win the game.
Then we played galaxy trucker and after a disastrous first round (like seriously, a couple cards that require you to have 5+ guns on the first level ship) I mounted a huge comeback in the third round only for an asteroid to knock off a cargo compartment on the last card and make me lose by 2 points. It was really a night of snatching defeat from victory.

I'm taking a quick weekend roadtrip to visit my sister and my brother-in-law. Past visits with them have included a lot of awkward downtime, which Brother-in-Law fills with making us all watch seriously unfunny "funny" "viral" video clips of fire stations making local safety ads for their communities. Also, there's not really enough comfortable seating in her living room. So this time, I'm bringing Sushi Go, Mysterium, Tsuro of the Seas, and Love Letter and goddammit, we're going to sit in the comfortable dining room playing board games instead of watching YouTube on an ipad, so help me God! My sister generally finds a way to ruin everything, though, so expect to see a comment from me on Monday saying, "I did not play Sushi Go, Mysterium, Tsuro, or Love Letter this weekened."
