All in the title! I'm curious. I'd just be interested to see say, people's top 20 from 2010 to now (if you can do that many), since the decade is more than half over.

A Separation, Weekend, The Past, Kokuhaku (Confessions) and Starred Up are some of my favorites thus far this decade. Admittedly, there are probably quite a few I'm missing at this time.

^Yes, 2011 was by far the worst year for film so far this decade. And yet it got 9 Oscar Best Picture nominees to 2014's 8! It doesn't make sense!

In no particular order: Prisoners, Jiro Dreams of Sushi, Nebraska, The Descendants, Gravity, All is Lost, Boyhood, Birdman. And the “30 for 30” documentary productions are almost always feature-film caliber, including: Catching Hell, You Don't Know Bo, Ghosts of Ole Miss, and Broke.

Really, I thought there were a lot of great films in 2011. If nothing else, it was a great year for non-US cinema. Therein lies the problem. I don't watch a lot of non-US cinema. Find a way to watch Confessions. It's basically a cross between Rashomon, Old Boy, and Heathers. The first thirty minutes alone are some of the best cinema I've seen so far this decade.

I will say, though, that 2011 was a better year for cinema than 2015!
I keep meaning to get into foreign films, and I haven't yet. That will change this year. Also, Ice Cream Planet, I hate to be one of those guys, but "A Separation" came out in 2009.

How have I not seen this? Thank you so much for mentioning it. It was Japan's entry for the 2011 Best Foreign Language Film at the Academy Awards. It made the shortlist, but wasn't nominated. Thankfully, it won Best Film and Best Director at the Japanese Academy Awards. Takako Matsu should have won Best Actress. She was phenomenal.

Ice Cream Planet My apologies, I was confusing it with "An Education". And Lady Bones I have several foreign films I've been meaning to watch and I promise I'll get to them soon.

I loved An Education! I'm planning on reading her original memoir and rewatching the film.

This is going to be such an incomplete list, because I haven't seen a lot of the essentials and I know I'm forgetting some that I have (notably foreign films). Off the top of my head:
1. The Master 2. Her 3. Whiplash 4. Shut Up And Play The Hits 5. Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World 6. Frank 7. The Cabin in the Woods 8. Much Ado About Nothing 9. Grand Budapest Hotel 10. How to Train Your Dragon 11. Catching Fire 12. The LEGO Movie 13. Rubber 14. Pacific Rim 15. Veronica Mars 16. Coherence 17. Nightcrawler 18. Super 8 19. Inside Llewyn Davis 20. Monsters

Cabin in the Woods is such a great choice. I love that movie so goddamn much. The only one on the list I saw more times in theaters was Scott Pilgrim (4), but Cabin in the Woods I've seen close to ten times overall.

The Prighlofone: Back in 2009, several people, including Roger Ebert, argued against critics doing best of the decade lists because they believed that decades are from 2001-2010, etc. I was unsure where the stance was on that for this.

If 2000 started a new millennium, then I'm pretty sure it started a damn decade.

I still haven't seen Boyhood despite having the Blu-ray sitting here for 10 days now, but that's the only real blind spot. Or unintentional one at least.
1. The Social Network 2. Cloud Atlas 3. Gravity 4. Whiplash 5. Moonrise Kingdom 6. The World's End 7. Before Midnight 8. Django Unchained 9. Her 10. The Grand Budapest Hotel 11. Inception 12. Blue Valentine 13. Lincoln 14. Black Swan 15. Snowpiercer 16. Four Lions 17. Margin Call 18. Gone Girl 19. Interstellar 20. The Cabin In the Woods
I've seen 256 from this decade so far, not bad. On the other hand looking through the list there are more than a handful that I had no memory of before looking them up.
