First, for clarity, just some of the most significant (to me) gaps in my viewing history at the moment: A Separation Her Force Majeure Killing Them Softly Margaret Headhunters Wadjda Upstream Color Frances Ha The Missing Picture Whiplash Alps Le Grande Belleza Starred Up Nightcrawler The Tale of Princess Kaguya Stranger By the Lake
And now, for the main event. I want to be clear that on any given day of the week, at least 20 or 21 out of these could be in a completely different order.
1. Inside Llewyn Davis 2. Holy Motors 3. The Master 4. Twelve Years a Slave 5. Birdman 6. Gravity 7. The Grand Budapest Hotel 8. The Act of Killing 9. Before Midnight 10. Dogtooth/Kynodontas 11. The Wind Rises 12. The World's End 13. Inherent Vice 14. The One I Love 15. Under the Skin 16. Young Adult 17. Pariah 18. Weekend 19. Hanna 20. The Cabin in the Woods 21. Seven Psychopaths 22. Attack the Block 23. 127 Hours 24. Black Swan 25. Hugo 26. The Tree of Life

The love The Cabin in the Woods and Weekend is getting on this thread makes me VERY happy.
Also, glad I'm not the only one who thinks Black Swan is standing the test of time.
Thirdly, I'm glad people are mentioning The Social Network and ignoring The King's Speech. (Still very better about that Oscar thing. I mean Tom Hooper fucking won best director at the Oscars. Even BAFTA, the British fucking academy, gave David Fincher best director over native Tom Hooper!)

Yes. Also, Her and Whiplash are highly recommended. My favorite movie of 2013 and 2014, respectively.

MrsLangdonAlger I'm really happy you said Tangled instead of Frozen. I don't know if these lists are personal preference or what we think is the best reflection of the decade, but Tangled is a much more solid film than Frozen is and has been sorely overshadowed because of it.

At this point in time, as I have not seen everything from 2014 yet. Or even 2013. And holy crap was 2011 a terrible movie year. 1) Boyhood 2) Her 3) Gravity 4) Django Unchained 5) The Avengers 6) Social Network 7) Nightcrawler 8) Inception 9) Inside Llewyn Davis 10) Inherent Vice 11) Upstream Color 12) Looper 13) Grand Budapest Hotel 14) Toy Story 3 15) Beasts of the Southern Wild 16) Moonrise Kingdom 17) Snowpiercer 18) Moneyball 19) Take Shelter 20) You're Next Yay for including Upstream Color, Looper, and Take Shelter. And for having Her that high. And for me - yay for mentioning Gravity. That movie gets a lot of scorn, but I loved it.

Boyhood was great, it would be on my list somewhere. "Deep Blue" in the end credits, swoon.

A lot of my favorites have been covered already, except for this one:
American Hustle
Another one that I just enjoyed the hell out of watching in the same way I loved Inherent Vice.

Fine. I'll answer my own thread to the best of my ability.
Her Toy Story 3 The Social Network Inside Job Boyhood Before Midnight Gone Girl Easy A Kick-Ass 21 Jump Street Drinking Buddies Moonrise Kingdom The Wolf of Wall Street Gravity Lincoln
DAMN IT THIS IS HARD - there's lots of other stuff I like I need to rewatch to see if it fits in the list
TWO MORE THINGS: Goat, you're an ass, I thought my 162 films from this decade was impressive. And "World's Greatest Dad" actually was from 2009.

The backlash to Hustle was really disappointing to me; I thought it was a really fun movie. I'm also a fan of Silver Linings Playbook.

Something like this maybe? It's hard because of which films I've seen most recently, and that I remember certain films more fondly than others. In my original ranking for 2013 I had 12 Years over Before Midnight, but I just have so many feelings caught up in Jesse and Celine, and 12 Years is such a heavy film, that they switched places for this ranking. Similarly, Only Lovers and the Social Network are ranked 3 Stars for me whereas the rest of the films below them are four stars, but I just remember those two films so strongly that they're pretty high in the rankings. I'm sure if I rewatched all of these that this order would not hold in the least. Anyways, here it is:
01) Boyhood 02) Nymphomaniac (Vol I and II) (International version) 03) Gone Girl 04) Before Midnight 05) 12 Years a Slave 06) Social Network, The 07) Whiplash 08) Holy Motors 09) Grande Bellezza, La (The Great Beauty) 10) Ida 11) Only Lovers Left Alive 12) Her 13) Life Itself 14) Blue Ruin 15) Lego Movie, The 16) The Tale of Princess Kaguya 17) American Hustle 18) All is Lost 19) Two Days, One Night

The Her love continues unabated much to my glee, and I'm so glad Before Midnight, Toy Story 3, Boyhood and Lincoln (one of Spielberg's best films in my book) are getting some recognition! And I'll also reinforce the love going on for David O. Russell's two most recent films, American Hustle and Silver Linings Playbook. Hustle particularly impressed me, some great performances in there!

This isn't a real top 20, just the ones that come to mind first 1. Boyhood 2. Bernie 3. Rush 4. Prisoners 5. Killer Joe 6. Django Unchained 7. 21 and 22 Jump Street 8. Social Network 9. Nightcrawler 10. Whiplash 11. Black Swan 12. Grand Budapest Hotel 13. Dredd 14. Snowpiercer 15. Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol 16. Scott Pilgrim vs The World 17. Attack the Block 18. Adventures of Tintin 19. Wreck it Ralph 20. 127 hours Updating the list, would definitely put Hateful Eight in there in place of wreck-it-ralph. Still have no clue what ranking those twenty films exactly would be like, all of them are just so damn good.

I'm actually quite happy this thread is resurging.
I'd add "Calvary," "Margaret," "Inside Out," "The End of the Tour," "Steve Jobs" and maybe "Dear White People". Planning on seeing a lot more foreign and short films this year, and the many acclaimed 2015 films I haven't gotten a chance to see yet.
