Coke is better than Pepsi, but Cherry Coke is equal to Wild Cherry Pepsi, and Mountain Dew is better than Mello Yello, but I don't really drink either of those anymore. But, all that said, I voted for Coke because Coke itself is better than Pepsi. And I've been to the World of Coke.

I tend to prefer Coke because their stuff seems less sweet overall, though I do have a fondness for Schweppes Dark Ginger Ale.

They both have sugar and caffeine, right?
I guess Coke, because marketing works sometimes.

Although I have broken myself of the habit, after 20-some years of hydrating exclusively with Diet Coke, I gotta vote Coke here. NOTE TO SERVERS IN RESTAURANTS ALL OVER AMERICA: NO, DIET PEPSI IS NOT OKAY.

I can see why my little cousin prefers it but otherwise ick. I miss the days when they had the pepsi taste tests in the mall where you could win somewhat decent prices because it was stupidly easy to pick out the Pepsi.

Another easy vote for Coke here. Though I will take the Pepsi if that's all they have.
I particularly love Coke Zero. I far prefer it to regular Coke and Diet Coke. In fact, I think it's the greatest soda ever created. One time my boss was asking me why I drink Coke Zero, and I said because I loved it so much. She said, "Studies have shown that diet soda doesn't help people lose weight." I said, "I know, I'm not on a diet. I just like it." Becoming frustrated, she said, "Well, diet sodas are even worse for you than regular."
I said, "I know, and I don't care. I like Coke Zero more than being alive."
She dislikes morbid humor and that shut her up.

Coke for the win here.
Pepsi has a chemical sweetener taste that I can't stand, similar to Sweet and Low. I would drink water if only Pepsi was available at a restaurant.

Rarely drink sodas anymore, but based on the flagship products alone, Coke>Pepsi always and forever. Also helps that regular Coke is an excellent cure for hangovers/nausea. Can't tell you how pissed I was when my university switched to Pepsi machines in the dorm.
Furthermore, those Pepsi: Choice of a new Generation ads were the first ad campaign I remember having an irrational hatred for. Fuck You and your Pepsi Generation! You Don't Speak For Me!
However, for the undercards it's more competative.
Diet Pepsi>Diet Coke. Almost never drank diet sodas, even when I drank sodas more regularly. But Diet Coke is foul. I'm astounded by how popular it is, it just tastes off. Diet Pepsi is acceptable, and in fact I'd say it's frankly comparable to regular Pepsi in that it cuts down on the gross sweetness of the latter.
Sprite>7Up. Very close in taste, but again Sprite seems less overly sweet. The less said about Pepsico's Mountain Spew the better.
Dr. Pepper>Cherry Coke. Generally despise cherry-flavored stuff, but Dr. Pepper is tolerable as I remember it easing up on the fake taste and over sweetness (think there's a pattern here).
Gatorade>Powerade. Gatorade is more watery, so a nice cold one is genuinely refreshing. Other electrolyte themed drinks tend to be too sugary for my tastes. The excess sweetness defeats the purpose by dehydrating me.

Can someone here spill the beans & tell us exactly what flavor Dr. Pepper is? I mean, I know it's "23 flavors" but come on.Prune juice is the flavor you're trying to nail down. Also coca tea is more than a fair approximation to the "Pepper" flavor.

You can all kindly GTFO. Pepsi forever. Although I will never forgive them for discontinuing the original Sierra Mist and remaking it into a bland, watered-down shell of itself.
Also, where are the other people who voted Pepsi? I can't be the only one representing here.

To me Pepsi has bit of a bite whereas Coke is more syrupy. Because of that, Coke is a much better mixer and I cannot live without my Jack and Coke. But given a choice it tends to be Wild Cherry Pepsi>Cherry Coke>Pepsi>Coke. Of course a true fountain Coke with cherry syrup does beat about anything. Those grocery store taste tests were very easy though.

Albert Fish Taco, I was firmly in the Gatorade camp, as I am a graduate of the University of Florida, and lack of fealty to one's alma mater is unconscionable. Powerade has drastically changed its salt mix. I feel that the Powerade Fruit Punch, which is the the flavor of my electrolytic tipple of choice, now equals, and in some slakings surpasses, Gatorade Fruit Punch.

I tend to prefer Coke because their stuff seems less sweet overall, though I do have a fondness for Schweppes Dark Ginger Ale. I've been very curious about Schweppes Dark, but usually only drink soft drinks that are sugar free so haven't tasted it. What's it like? More gingery? Like ginger beer? Or does it have something else going on? I've googled to see if any one has tasting notes on it but have come up with nothing.

And I know the jury is out on artificial sweeteners being as bad or worse than sugar, but hell at least I won't get cavities.

Atlanta should have remained burned after Sherman marched through. The taste differences I flip-flop on. I'll drink either; some months I prefer Pepsi, others Coca-Cola. I do have a political opinion, based on my personal experience of Atlanta.

Mid-to-late 90s in ATL my visits included: Food poisoning at the now-closed Tortillas. Near death by Alcohol. Open solicitation offers to me on streets in Virginia Highlands. Guy in a car asked if I wanted to make some money, "painting his house". Coulda been rape on streets of Cabbagetown. Guy in a gay bar (Mary's, down the street from The Earl) nearly strong-armed me out of the place. I was his "last call". Last fistfight of my life, to date, @ El Myr. Elided segregation. Self-satisfied young people at CNN. Buckhead. Too many Peachtrees (Streets, Avenues, Places, Circles, Roads, Cul-de-Sacs). Multiple heartbreaks (lost a lifelong grade school friend after pompously and pretentiously telling him how much Atlanta sucked; lost a friend with whom I wanted to "be in love with" to the preceding lifelong grade school friend). Too many "wrong place, wrong time" incidents. MARTA. Hartsfield-Jackson - Terrible coming in. Terrible going out. 2000 - 2003 My visits included: Food poisoning at the now-closed Tortillas. Near death by Alcohol. MARTA. Segregation somehow more prominent. Alpharetta Norcross Hartsfield-Jackson - Terrible coming in. Terrible going out.

Where's the "New Coke" option?

Coke is fine if you want to dissolve teeth or nails (carpentry, not finger, and why on earth are fingernails more resistant to dissolution than teeth anyway?), clean rust off the fender of a 53 Willys, or mix a Jack and coke (It is a fine mixer, I'll give you that), but it you are talking beverage, Pepsi all the way. More thoughts on Coke Vs Pepsi
An update on the linked post: The snow has melted, and I am once again drinking Pepsi. I have cut down (always the excuse of the weak willed like myself) but have not given it up completely.
