How far back would you have to go to find a Pats super bowl where their support wasn't just limited to: A) their own fans; B) fans of the NFC teams division rivals; C) contrarians/trolls My guess would be the nipplegate one vs the Panthers. This superbowl. A good chunk of people are rooting against the rams because A. They don't think LA should have a football team B. More importantly, the refs screwing the saints make people think the Rams don't deserve it.

This superbowl. A good chunk of people are rooting against the rams because A. They don't think LA should have a football team B. More importantly, the refs screwing the saints make people think the Rams don't deserve it. You may be right. Most of these reasons are not rational, and with the main one I suspect there'll be a cooling off period by the time the Super Bowl starts. Within subgroup A there're are probably a good number of people from around St Louis that are (understandably) bitter about Stan Kronke screwing them over. But I'm not sure how numerous they are. St Louis (along with NYC and as it happens LA) is one of the three markets where the NFL still takes a backseat to baseball, and it's substantially smaller than the other two. I don't think it's bad that LA has an NFL team. But I do think it's a bit ridiculous that they have two, and I think the Chargers fans in San Diego got screwed a tad worse by awful owners. While the blown call was the most egregious I can remember seeing live in any sport, I do think people are placing the blame where it belongs with the refs rather than the Rams. I don't think Nickell Robey-Coleman was trying any trickery. I suspect he's aware he could easily have ended up as the goat of the game.

Of course this prediction in April was for the score in the Super Bowl and not their regular season record, though I can see why you'd think that. I was close!

I think it's ridiculous that Stephon Gilmore wasn't the MVP. That pick at the end sealed the game.
While not containing Edelman was the one flaw in the Rams Defense until they were gassed by the very end, it likely would have been a mere annoyance had Goff been steadier and/or hadn't thrown a pick.
Is there some NFL rule that defensive players aren't allowed to be MVP?

I don't know when this ride will end, but I'm cherishing every moment I can get. And I think Edelmen should be MVP, he was the pats offense last night and while they didn't score on his big drives it was a game of field position and controlling the clock, Edelmen extending drives was a big key to that. He has also been the Pats best player throughout the entire playoffs this year, so I'm cool with him winning.

Outcome aside, I'm in the minority that enjoyed watching this game. I'll take a good defensive struggle that stays close late into the 4th quarter than an uneven shootout that's over for sure five minutes into the 3rd quarter.

Look, I get the Patriots hate. They have won 6 super bowls in almost 20 years while many franchises can go lifetimes without winning. There should be little reason for anyone who isn't a Pats fan to get enjoyment out of another Patriots win. However, I think everyone can at least appreciate this clip. Ever since the McCourty twins ended up in the league I wanted someway for them to play together and they were finally able to do it this year and they were able to win a championship together and that is really cool.

Here's a bunch of mild assed predictions about the 100th NFL season. Only 25-50% will be proven wrong so I'm reasonably confident in stating them despite the fact that I've paid less attention to this year's off-season scuttlebutt than I have in ages.
The Saints will win the NFC South and NFC overall.
Notwithstanding last night Bears will repeat in the NFC North.
Rams will repeat the NFC West.
Panthers will be one of the NFC wild cards.
Patriots will repeat in AFC East.
Bills will be one of the AFC wild cards.
Chiefs will make the playoffs in some form, and at some point Andy Reid's clock management will strike again.
The following 14 teams will not see post-season action: Deadskins Giants Vikings Packers Lions Bucs Cards Jets Dolphins Bengals Titans Colts Broncos Raiders
I'd add that if Wentz stays healthy the Eagles should win the NFC East, but if not we'll get the pleasure of watching the Cowboys getting humiliated at home by whoever the 5 seed is.

Sadly Football Cat had better red zone numbers than every Giant receiver not named Golden Tate last night.

Being a Ravens fan this season has been pretty amazing so far, not least because NFL commentators actually have something nice to say about us for once. It's hilarious to hear them falling all over themselves to talk about how great we've been playing. Is this what it's like to be a Patriots fan?

This is most likely the end of Brady era Pats, and really all I can say is that it has been great watching them for two decades. It truly has been unreal to be a fan, even if the Pats never win another in my lifetime I will be 100% content and then some. I can't wait to see what the future holds, whether it be trying to run it back again or a full on rebuild.
For the rest of this year though, I can just enjoy watching players like Lamar Jackson without rooting against them.

This only makes me curious as to what Stoolpresidentes sick burn was. Which is a string of words I’d never have expected to write.

In conclusion........ my guesses were shit, the ones I got right hardly count as surprising or savvy, and ....... I’m quite ok with how everything turned out. In fact since I didn’t expect anything out of the Giants anyway, I’d say I’m very happy with how 2019-20 turned out compared to my predictions.

The NFL is thinking of moving to 17 games. It is fucking stupid. The NFL system is perfect as is, the owners just want more money. 17 games will also stop teams from being .500, that is just supremely weird imo.

Brady to the 49ers, with Jimmy G coming back to the Pats. That would be the only scenario I could somewhat accept that isn't Brady coming back to the Pats.
Brady's childhood team was the 49ers, he is a California guy. I could respect him taking a chance on that, especially since the 49ers do have a good team.
Jimmy G had problems last year, but it made sense, he was coming off an ACL tear. That is a tricky injury for QBs. He did get better as the year went on. He is still on the better side of 30.

Based on the baseball season so far, I'm expecting the NFL season to be even more enigmatic. The temptation to jot down some horribly wrong predictions is strong. I will make a mild assed guess though that this might be the opposite of two years ago, a very defensive oriented season capped by a ridiculous shootout of a Super Bowl

This may be a very different NFL season than any other, but at least one thing will stay the same: I can turn off a Lions game with four minutes left on the clock and a significant lead, and I can still check the final score and see they lost. In these uncertain times I guess we need consistency like that.

The Ravens finally beat Mahomes and the Chiefs! 15 players on IR and we still managed to win the game. Not by much, mind you, but we did it. I'm really glad I stayed up to watch the game last night.
