WELCOME FRIENDS!
A new season is upon us. Free agency is now onto the Jaquizz "Quizz on your face" Rodgers gets a one-year contract period. The draft is right around the corner. The 49ers are in the strangest situation I've ever seen.
LET'S TALK FOOTBAWWWWWWL.

Going into the draft Green Bay has three main needs:
1.) ILB 2.) CB 3.) ST depth
Richard Rodgers was really playing well at the end of the season and has consistently been said to have the best hands on the team by Aaron Rodgers and the coaching staff, but I still wouldn't be surprised if they take Maxx Williams if he's available in the draft. Barrington came on at ILB at the end of the year and I'm ecstatic that Hawk and Jones were not brought back, but unless Carl Bradford, a former OLB turned ILB that was drafted last season, really steps up it's the biggest spot of need and there aren't that many first round prospects. Adding CB depth would be nice but Hayward will probably be moved outside and Hyde back into the slot, so Goodson will be the nickle corner even though he's not seen the field much.
How's your draft shakin' out? Anyone planning on going? I entered the raffle because it's where I live.

The Bears are doing their utmost to win a wild card spot in three to four years. Always a bad time to be a Chicago fan.
Bears draft needs: LB Safety QB
I'm the most interested in seeing which of the AFC East teams is going to justify the ludicrous amount of money that they spent to try and unseat the Patriots.

Also it's really far in advance but I'll probably be doing another fantasy league for those who are interested. Can do free / cash depending upon preference.

What the heck, I could go for another league that I can slap my head about on Thursday nights for forgetting to update my lineup ahead of that night's game.

I know you can't prove success until long into the season, but boy, does it feel so good, so exciting to be a Jets fan right now when the team is full of promise and potential.
Does it hurt that our former Cheerleader-in-Chief Rex Ryan is bad-mouthing his former team, the first team that gave him a shot at being head coach and that he led to two back-to-back AFC Championship appearances? Sure. But it goes to show the limitation's of Rex's otherwise impressive sense of loyalty, and the viciousness of his big mouth. It also stings that he now has as much ire for us as much as he does for Bill Belichick.
But by god, we still have a defensive genius for an HC, and perhaps one who has given a look at fixing the offensive playbook. Chan Gailey as our OC? That's some experience I can trust, mixed with the great new talent filling out our WR corps, and I already have plenty of faith in Chris Ivory -- the Beast of the East! -- and excited to add Steven Ridley to the mix! The Jets are clearly taking chances with otherwise back-up talent, and I think it will pay-off for a well-balanced playbook.
Of course, also excited to see Revis back in green (WHERE HE BELONGS), and Antonio Cromartie lending support. That's a Batman/Robin dynamic you can take to a Super Bowl, and win it! Mixed with the Sons of Anarchy leading our D-line, and I'm thinking this team has the chance to WIN the Super Bowl!
But what's to be done with our QB? A lot of people are making big deals out of Mariota and Winston. Given the past six years, I'm eager to see a little consistency, and I may be among the small contingency of Jets fans who want to give Geno Smith one last chance. No, our QBs are not great -- now Geno "End on a Perfect Note" Smith, Ryan "Fitzmagic" Fitzpatrick, and Matt "Not Phil" Simms. That Chan has a reputation of something of a QB whisperer, I have faith he can bring the best out of Geno, if not his presumptive replacement. But to waste such a high draft pick on another new-franchise QB would be a waste of where we could shore a good back-up, if not build on our already impressive WR corps.
I think the only thing I am not looking forward to is having a competent Jets team take the wind out of the pitiful hopelessness and irony of my Block and Tackle SUPERTHREADS in the old country.

I love that the Eagles have now assembled what might be one competent QB from the parts of three bad QBs, plus Matt Barkley.
Today the schedule gets released! Woo! That's sort of exciting!

Sorry Bedroom Pastrami, I can't hear you without an accent. As per Ma Freshenmeyer's people, I am allowed to borrow the accent to boldly proclaim: TWOM BRAYDEE IZ A FAHKIN' CHEETAH! And they mean that last part. I, on the other hand, shall adapt the accent of my people: FUCKIN' TOM BRADY, FUCKIN' PATRIOTS, CHEATIN' ALL THE FUCKIN' TIME. WHO THE FUCK DO THEY THINK THEY ARE, REALLY? WELL, NO FUCKIN' MATTER -- THE JETS ARE SO FUCKIN' HOT RIGHT NOW! SUPER BOWWWWWWWLLLLLEEEEESSS GONNA TAKE US TO THE BIG FUCKIN' GAME, BABY, AND ALL THANKS TO MAC DADDY CORRECTING ALLA FUCKIN' IDZIK'S CHEAPSHIT PENNYPINCHING MISTAKES! FUCK YOU REX! WE LUVYA, BUTFUCKYA YOU FATTY FUCK! GO JETS! J-E-T-S! JETS JETS JETS!
WOOOO!!
That aside, I didn't care if Tom Brady "was generally aware." That's not saying he's directing them to deflate the balls, and that's certainly not saying that even Bellichick directed these two assclown gym-monkeys to deflate balls. Even as a fan of a rival team, the punishment is too harsh on very little evidence to connect any of the Patriots from any wrongdoing. If the Pats have to suffer for two dudes who hate their jobs fuck up everything for the Pats, well then I don't want to discount what that team can achieve next year. It hurts the Pats in a stupid way, and MORE IMPORTANTLY, makes the Jets' victories seem less significant when they inevitably go 16-0, through the playoffs, and to the Super Bowl. I just want it to be fair, y'know?

The amount of Hot Takes that Ballgazhi has produced has made me so stupidly happy.
According to Pats fans...
THIS IS ALL BECAUSE OF THE COLTS!! THEY ORCHESTRATED THE STING!!!!
YOU'RE ALL JUST JEALOUS!! JEEEEAAAAALLLOOOOUUUUSSSS!!
SOMETHING SOMETHING IT WAS THE JETS!!
Football is dumb and I love it so much.
Also Aaron Rodgers dominated in Jeopardy so the MACC Fund (Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer) got $50k!

Also Aaron Rodgers dominated in Jeopardy so the MACC Fund (Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer) got $50k! The I am not saying it has been overwhelming, but the turn-around finger-pointing at the Jets for 'tampering' with getting Revis back had been a fair amount of horsecrap I get from my Pats-fan friends as a way to deflect the idea that only the Pats were cheaters. Nobody said it was JUST the Pats, just that they got caught doing something particularly egregious during the playoffs, of all times. Anywho: There is a small contingency of us Jets fans who are actively rooting for Geno Smith this year to turn it around. I'm confident he can do it -- the glib knee-jerk reaction some of us have to stupid quotes about showing 'flashes' of Pro-Bowl caliber talent not withstanding, us Jets fans have seen Geno develop under the gun into, at the very least, a pro-level quarterback -- in that, he plays pro football. Still, this doesn't have the same flavor as Mark Sanchez's sad time as a quarterback -- two impressive years out the gate, followed by miserable underdevelopment, a revolving door of receivers, and three OCs who didn't know how to utilize any of what little talent the Jets offense had to spare (also, something about a fumble during a Thanksgiving game I can't quite remember). Instead, Geno has a lot of upside and the best receiving corp the Jets have had since... Uhhh... Probably ever, really. This is his year to prove that he is the Jets' QB, and I want to see it happen in brilliant performances. Worse comes to worse? Fitzmagic does his stuff for a year or two til Petty is ready to play.

I remember how good Geno looked at the start of last season. Maybe he'll recapture that?
Looks like Green Bay is going to be keeping Matthews at ILB for a bit while giving Jake Ryan and Carl Bradford (plus a couple other guys) time to develop. Barrington is turning out to be another classic Ted Thompson late-round pick, which is great. He's a bit better in pass coverage than run defending, but he's a thumper. If Ryan can complement that the the middle of the defense will be shored up.

I'm not so sure, even before his Grucchi Brothers act there was mumbling that JPP might be set free for cap space. As my one of my bosses who has season tickets said "JPP might be toast(ed)"

He plays defence, you don't need fingers. Just swat club hands at the qb

He plays defence, you don't need fingers. Just swat club hands at the qb IIRC didn't that legitimately happen recently? I seem to remember a player with broken fingers wrapping his whole hand in a brace and still managing to bat down a pass or two as a lineman.

I mean it can be done, and a braced hand could bat down (though probably not intercept) a bad throw. But an injured hand seems like a massive impediment for run defense, especially with how much running backs weigh now.

It's a sure-fire way of not getting a holding penalty called against you, so there's that.

Generally don't like to plug my comments at The Old Country, but I'm particularly proud of what's below (from a rare GJI that actually was pretty good on the cartoon about how Tony Iommi lost two fingers) -
JPP lost his digits Can he play Or is he sidelined Can he tackle at all Or if he moves will he fall
The Giants won't keep him They just increase their cap space Nobody'll sign him Now he'll have to play in Winnipeg

Brady's suspension is upheld. I can't wait for tomorrow's Block & Tackle article from John Teti, 'The NFL Doubles Down on Punishing Tom Brady For His Unapologetically Handsome Success.'*
Disclaimer: I think Teti is one of the most talented writers the AV Club has on staff - but he's so laughably blinded by his Patriots fandom that it produces utterly pathetic results when he writes about them.
