patbat, serious question: are you listening to a podcast called "Citation Needed", or one called "Citations Needed" with citations being plural? The former is, as I understand it, something like what you described, but the latter is the show pasta, MLA, et. al. are recommending. Theoretically, it might not be your cup of tea, but it's a professional sounding podcast with two hosts who both come across as able podcasters in terms of their presentation, and it's basically a leftist media criticism show. It seems like the sort of thing you might really like, tbh. The latter--plural, with the logo of gold brackets on a black background. The material they covered on the episodes I tried was fine, if a bit remedial for me given my day job, but I couldn't get past the way the dudes sounded like they were reading something aloud they'd never read before, with Shatneresque pauses at unnatural points in the sentence. Maybe I just caught them on an unbroken succession of off weeks? Oh, that's fair enough then. I'd assume you just won't care for the show if you've listened to multiple episodes and found it sonically unpleasant.

So i've been giving listening to podcasts a shot -Pod Save America- this one gives strong "THIS WILL BE THE THING THAT TAKES DOWN TRUMP/ JOHN OLIVER DESTROYS TRUMP" energy
-Citations Needed- Pretty good, but Jesus christ slow down and throw in a joke or two.
-Chapo Trap House- Sometimes they can be amusing, but half the times they are such assholes I wondered if a #Resistance member or a Republican was paying them to act like this to make American leftists look bad.
-Struggle Session- Can be a bit bro-y but its not overwhelmingly so.
-Behind the Bastards- One of the hosts recently bought a machete. that is all
-Feminist Frequency Radio- also good, though Carolyn tends to take a bit to get her thoughts across. Anita is weirder and more cynical than I expected but she still has that excellent taste in music and Ebony is pretty amusing.
-Hear the Bern- I'm starting to think that all the other candidates should get their own podcast.
-Useful Idiots- they seem to plan on softballing every interview (including one with Tulsi), but its good enough to continue for the next few episodes.
-Revolutions Per Minute- the NYC DSA's radioshow. Its pretty good. Not good enough to convince me to take a role with the org until some changes are made in it, but its pretty informative.
-Sh!tpost- a look into internet drama that usually ends up being about the far right. They managed to get the guy that called Brett Stephens a bed bug for an interview.
-QAnon Anonymous- lefty leaners informing us of what the fuck is going on in regards to Q and their conspiracies. Its a mix of sad, funny and horrifying.
-Red Scare- its like Chapo without the few good things going for it and the hosts always sound stoned as hell.
-Eating for Free, Current Affairs, If It's Gay We Play,Death Panel, Video Games are the Worst Thing on Earth, etc- some stuff I listened to but hasn't really left an impression on me yet
open to recs, its the only thing keeping me sane at my data entry temp job

It can be pretty hangout-y, but I like that its very much a show that just talks about work and jobs in a way that is very pro-worker and they often call out how so much media out there is very pro-employer. So its nice to have one podcast going, "your complaints about your job are valid and there's nothing wrong with you."

Interviews with politicians can be a mixed bag, and itās probably no less dry than Citations Needed but the host does an impressive job of coming across as very informed on the broad array of subjects that he covers with his guests. If youāre interested in another macabre history podcast (which is kinda what Behind the Bastards is), Dan Carlinās Hardcore History is good (most older episodes are no longer available for free, but you could get through several weeks of your job on what is still free), albeit Carlin has some hard to pin down but probably not great politics that I know I have to ignore to enjoy the show. Question about Red Scare: just how bad is it? I heard one of the hosts on another show once, and she seems to be very conservative with just a thin veneer of āno actually Iām on the leftā. I canāt imagine listening to Red Scare regularly if one has serious reservations about Chapo (which I mostly enjoy even if I find Frost too much of a class reductionist, Christman a bit too conspiracy-happy, and its considerable cultural influence on the left mostly undeserved).

The thing I listen to most frequently these days is Knowledge Fight where two dudes drink novelty beverages and talk a little bit about Alex Jones. They dissect and debunk shit Alex Jones talks about on his show beyond just the "LOL look at this clown Alex Jones!" shit that most of the coverage of him seems to be. It's sometimes funny, sometimes terrifying, generally informative.

Iām irrationally happy that all three hosts on The Flophouse rated Venom āa movie they kinda likedā. Looking forward to them reviewing some ridiculous Nic Cage shit instead of the recent string of blockbusters where thereās really no consensus as to whether theyāre actually bad, which donāt usually tend to be my favorites.

Red Scare is definitely worse, the episode I listened to they just ranted about ANTIFA, claiming they are "pointless" They are definitely just right wingers

Started listening to Unspooled, which goes over the 2007 edition of the AFI top 100 movies of all time.
The hosts give interesting takes on movies I have seen, and make me want to check out older movies that I have not bothered to seek out.

Yeah, she hates the MCU movies too, but her comments made me appreciate the work that went into Titanic a bit more. Still not rewatching that movie.

Yeah, she hates the MCU movies too, but her comments made me appreciate the work that went into Titanic a bit more. Still not rewatching that movie. Actually I will say I did appreciate Titanic a bit more after hearing her thoughts on it. Still as one of my favourite films I thought she was way too tough on Shawshank, including the observation that there aren't any female characters in it. It takes place predominantly in a MEN'S PRISON. That just seems like being contrarian for contrarian's sake. She does another pod where she interviews Quentin Tarantino and his thoughts on three films he chose to feature at his cinema. If you're not put off by him and are kind of a film nerd I thought it was pretty good. It's 3 or 4 episodes each about 45 minutes or thereabouts.

I already said I'm not a fan of Chapo, but Cumtown is basically every critique of Chapo, accurate and inaccurate, come into being.

After having read the book, I can say that the Ronan Farrow Catch and Kill podcast is pretty good. Rather than taking the story chronologically, it looks at a different strand each week. Only 4 episodes so far, so it's still unfolding.

I started with Revolutions about two years ago, when I had a puppy that required a lot of walking every day. I caught up to it right as he went back to the Guide Dog School (which happened to time right around the beginning of the Russian Revolution). So now I've gone back and started with The History of Rome, although I took a short break after the episode on Sulla to go back and listen to the audiobook of his The Storm Before the Storm for the additional detail on that time period.
