This should be in some 'Basil Frankweiler' movie, except the kids live in a mall instead of a museum.

I was at a wedding yesterday where the DJ played Africa during the dinner service, and fully half of the guests put down their food to sing along. It was like a movie or something.

Is Toto a piece of moldy cheese that survived beyond the eighties or one that was, to stretch this metaphor, rotting at the back of the pop cultural fridge and brought out again by the internet? Because I have heard more about “Africa”—and Toto—in the past few months than in my entire almost thirty years prior to the past few months.

I thought the nineties kids would have completely displaced them by now.

The unrelated outro is also amazing.

The Weezer cover seems to have had its moment, and I'm glad it's gone. Although fairly accurate, it's so antiseptic and airless, drained of emotion. The video with Weird Al is pretty good, though.

The unrelated outro is also amazing. I was on the fence, but Hannah's vocals added whatever it was that this needed to make it great.

I do think the Toto cover of "Hash Pipe" that came out of this - the one with the funny hair metal synth solo - was pretty funny. Better than the original (not hard given this is Weezer we're talking about)!

(I secretly like every part of this song other than the dumb lyrics and verse and chorus) My daughter and I, although we like a lot of the same music, come down on different sides about what we generally appreciate. Other than exercise music, most of my favorites tend to be due to the lyrics (this is super simplified - I am a sucker for 'Wall of Sound' compositions and other over-the-top cheese) while my daughter is all about the melodies and considers the vocals more of just another instrument. You could, like Trump 'singing' the National Anthem, substitute a bunch of random words and hums while sticking to the tune of this, and it would still be, unlike Trump 'singing' the National Anthem, just fine.

It has been pointed out to me by Tellyfier that this thread is now over three years old and still, somehow, going. Like a terrible, terrible guitar solo played by a terrible, terrible band. Thanks, everyone! I guess!
