Noting that I didn't see nearly enough films this year...
Best Film - Mad Max: Fury Road
Runners-up;
Predestination The Martian Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation - the Modesty Blaise reboot we’ve always needed, stuck in a MI flick. Chappie Spy
Best film hardly anyone else liked - Tomorrowland
Best obscure low-budget flick - Infini
Best film ruined by shit ending - It Follows (and yes, I’m still gonna fight you on this)
Worst Film - Terminator Genisys
Worst film that still entertained the shit out of me, mostly - Jupiter Ascending

Best Film - Brooklyn
Runners up - Max Max: Fury Road, Room, Spotlight, Inside Out, It Follows,
Best film hardly anyone else liked: Predestination
Best obscure film, fucked if I know the budget - Saw is this year, not from this year: Comet
Best film ruined by shit ending - The Circle, but this stretches the definition of "best".
Worst film - Goodnight Mommy. I don't care if it's a critical darling: it sucked.

And I thought "Predestination" got reasonably good reviews. One of the only things I like about winter is getting to catch up on the previous year's movies that I missed in theaters, I've only seen like 7 or 8 movies from this year so far. I enjoyed every movie I saw in theaters this year, but "Inside Out" would probably be my favorite. Shout out to (the assuredly Oscar-nomination-bound) Michael Fassbender and (the sadly less assuredly) Jason Segel for their own performances in the Steve Jobs and DFW biopics.

This one is a bunch of people who are made to stand in a circle and choose who is killed one by one by a mysterious force/entity. And Predestination got good reviews but no one saw it!

I’ve only seen eight new films this year, which is fairly reflective of how busy I’ve been. Top five (of eight) would be:
1. Mad Max: Fury Road for excitement and imagination 2. Timbuktu for relevance and scenery (a 2015 release in the Netherlands) 3. A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night for being so cool (a 2015 release in the Netherlands) 4. Best of Enemies for accents, historical importance, relevance and sheer Brahmanic bitchery (even if it wasn’t necessarily an impressive or innovative piece of filmmaking on a technical level) 5. The Martian for fun and imagination under constraint
While I didn’t dislike any films this year, something about The Salt of the Earth just didn’t sit well with me. I thought it was fascinating, but Salgado’s photography’s just a bit too slick for my taste.

I liked it: it's the best Heinlein adaptation to date (beating The Puppet Masters with Donald Sutherland to second place.)

Haven't seen many new films this year, but ...
1. It Follows (un-great ending and all) 2. Macbeth 3. Ex Machina 4. Mad Max
Honourable mention to Love & Mercy, which is the most frustrating film I've seen this year: stunningly brilliant when dealing with Brian Wilson's creativity, a little pedestrian everywhere else.
Best 'new to me' films, and indeed my two favourites of the year: The Child, by the Dardenne brothers, and Ida. Both of these are now permanently lodged in my mental furniture.

1. The Martian 2. Sicario 3. Mad Max: Fury Road 4. Creed 5. Steve Jobs 6. The Walk 7. MI: 5 8. Furious 7 9. The Gift 10. Straight Outta Compton 11. Jurassic World 12. Dragonball Z: Resurrection of F 13. Ant-Man 14. Avengers Age of Ultron
My top 4 are so close together that on any given day I might say one or the other was the best film of the year. I ended up liking the walk a lot more than most. There are also a few films from this year that I have not seen but will change this list a good bit probably, EX machina, Force Awakens, Mockingjay, Predestination, man from UNCLE(I love me some guy ritchie), and Hateful eight.

Current list:
1. Mad Max: Fury Road 2. Spotlight 3. Inside Out 4. Bridge of Spies 5. Straight Outta Compton 6. Love & Mercy 7. Spy 8. The Night Before 9. The Martian 10. Trainwreck 11. Phoenix 12. In the Name of My Daughter
Still have yet to see these: Brooklyn, Chi-Raq, Carol, Sicario, Revenant, Hateful Eight, Heart of the Sea, Macbeth, Anomalisa, Room
To be clear, I really liked "In the Name of My Daughter". Overall, this film year has not been as good as 2014, in terms of producing really great stuff, but either 2015 hasn't produced much outright bad stuff, or I did a really good job avoiding seeing it. (More likely the latter...hello, Mortdecai.) May my streak of not seeing anything bad continue!
EDIT for history:
Mad Max: Fury Road Spotlight The Big Short Youth Inside Out Bridge of Spies Star Wars: The Force Awakens Spy The Revenant Brooklyn Straight Outta Compton Love & Mercy The Martian The Night Before Carol Phoenix Tangerine Trainwreck In the Name of My Daughter In the Heart of the Sea

Just watched "Brooklyn". Please see the following graph, charting the changes in my opinion of "Brooklyn" over time. EDIT to explain: at first I thought it was slow and plain, and indeed the directing style remained extremely plain/unstylish throughout, but I am a great big sentimental sucker crybaby, and actor Emory Cohen (Tony) has the electric charisma and charm of James-Franco-on-Freaks-and-Geeks. That is to say, he's the very best thing about the movie. So when she comes back at the end (not really a spoiler, no sane person will be surprised by the plot in the least), I was a big stupid blubbering mess. But after the movie ended and the glow started to fade, it started to sink in that the "immigrant story" in "Brooklyn" is really very sentimental and schlocky, a Norman Rockwell idealization. Everything goes perfectly for Saoirse Ronan and her life is perfect. Big drama there. And the dilemma-ish choice she faces at the end, well...she doesn't even get to make the darn choice, it's made for her. And anyway, isn't this movie just a big young-love romance, and aren't I as a jaded loveless cynic supposed to not believe in that stuff? I do still like it, and am a big softie for it against logic. But for a moment I was thinking it was my #1 movie of the year, and now...not as much.

I thought it was fascinating, but Salgado’s photography’s just a bit too slick for my taste. I liked it, but I'm kind of a sucker for Wim Wenders documentaries (Tokyo-Ga, about the late Yasujiro Ozu and also contemporary 1980s Tokyo, was an instant favourite.)

Ron Howard Voice I would not make Ted Cruz’s sex tape as the bottom of the chart—it would, at least satisfy my curiosity about how weird the inside of his house is.

Craig probably would have if he hadn't resigned.

Didn't get to see many films in theatres this year so I'm a bit behind on things that haven't made it to home release.
Best Film - Mad Max: Fury Road
Other Faves: The Martian Inside Out Sicario
Not Bad: Tomorrowland (I liked this more than most people it seems) Hyena Road Ant-Man Ex Machina
Meh: Jupiter Ascending Chappie Black Mass Kingsman:The Secret Service Avengers 2: Electric Boogaloo Mistress America
Worst Film: Fantastic Four, I watched it with beyond low expectations and even full on mst3k snarking it it was a total slog. Honourable Mentions: Terminator Genisys Vacation

I haven't seen anything this year on account that my city doesn't have a theatre (we have the so called "Romanian New Wave" movies winning countless awards, but only the major cities have cinemas; eh, the paradoxes of this country), but I can't stress enough for best film: Mad Max Fury Road, Mad Max Fury Road, Mad Max Fury Road.

Updating the list again with the addition of Force Awakens. 1. The Martian 2. Sicario 3. Mad Max: Fury Road 4. Creed 5. Star Wars: The Force Awakens 6. Steve Jobs 7. The Walk 8. MI: 5 9. Furious 7 10. The Gift 11. Straight Outta Compton 12. Jurassic World 13. Black Mass 14. Dragonball Z: Resurrection of F 15. Ant-Man 16. Avengers Age of Ultron Time to update again. I've seen some new films and some films on this list twice since the last update. Reexamining feelings and getting more settled into what will be the final list for me. I only have two films left that I REALLY want to see from this year that I haven't. Look of Silence and Predestination. There are others I haven't seen, but don't have a particularly strong desire for. Anyway, the list. 1. Hateful Eight 2. The Martian 3. Sicario 4. Mad Max: Fury Road 5. Creed 6. The Big Short 7. The Walk 8. MI: 5 9. Star Wars: Force Awakens 10. Ex Machina(I didn't really like this one, but I'm not going to deny the fact that it is good) 11. Steve Jobs 12. Man from U.N.C.L.E. 13. Furious 7 14. The Gift 15. Inside Out 16. Straight Outta Compton 17. Jurassic World 18. Dragonball Z: Resurrection of F 19. Ant-Man 20. Black Mass 21. Age of Ultron Some reasons for the changes in rankings of previous films. I really love The Walk, anytime I think back on it is always very positive. It is a flawed film for sure, but that final third act was masterful. And that is why it jumps both jobs and TFA. As far as why MI: 5 does, because the action in it is really good, like really really good. As a fun action film, MI: 5 is better than TFA. The oprea house sequence in 5 is just so awesome. And why steve jobs dropped, great oscar worthy performances, but I don't know if I will really want to rewatch this one much, the first segment in it iis great but the next two aren't as good. Force Awakens was still one of the best times I've ever had in theaters(if not for the 70mm showing of Hateful Eight, it would be the best time I've ever had not just for 2015), but it is starting to settle for me as good not great. It is still a very fun movie and will be a favorite of mine, but isn't a truly spectacular film. My opinion of Black Mass only gets lower, other than depp it is so thoroughly average. Ask me again in sixth months and I might like it less than Ultron, at least there was multiple things I liked in that instead of the just the one thing for black mass.
