She's not going to win. You can print that comment and make me eat it in 2 weeks if I'm wrong. I want to believe. But, lots of people said that about Trump. And Brexit happened. And I'm now slightly afraid that the whole world is going insane. And are we ever going to get to a time when our choices are better than "Candidate most people don't like vs Truly detestable racist"? I can't believe I now look fondly at the times when our choices were "Candidate most people don't like vs Candidate most people don't like".

She's not going to win. You can print that comment and make me eat it in 2 weeks if I'm wrong. Isn't Macron favored in polls by a good 15 percentage points over each of the other major candidates in a head-to-head matchup? That's better than what the polls showed wrt the 2016 election in the US, where people thought super-volatile polls which on average had Clinton winning by less than 5 percentage points over Trump. Also, it's not like Chirac was super popular in 2002, is it?

Or just me? Not that I want this to happen, of course. Just wondering.

Just saw Le Pen was at 5% of the vote in Paris.
France! It's just like us! Cities vote one way, those outside the city vote a different way.
Please don't elect Le Pen, France. I still have yet to visit. I don't want it to be ruined before I get there!

It only just now occurred to me that if Le Pen wins she'll have access to France's nuclear weapons. She could theoretically nuke all of Algeria if she wanted to.
On the other hand, Macron is probably going to win, so Justin Trudeau will have another good-looking neoliberal-ish centrist world leader to make out with in public.

www.residentadvisor.net/news.aspx?id=38818I think at this point it is safe to assume that any 'youth brand' corporation is a front for a crotchety boojee old man. (See also Coachella, Urban Outfitters, Whole Foods)

So having been made to look so remote from labour by Le Pen, who went amongst the picketers, Macron is thought worthy of praise for being forced à contrecoeur amongst them himself, whereupon he managed to defeat Le Pen's maniuplative empty promises by lulling them into a silent despair with the message, basically, that their situation is hopeless and, being couageous enough to impart this to them, perhaps convince them that they should disconsolately go to the polls for him instead. The ownership of capital, being the relevant issue, is thus avoided by all. This is the most important function of bourgeois democracy: managing the irrational calls for justice of labour so that the rational operations of capital can proceed with minimal interference. www.theguardian.com/world/2017/apr/27/how-macron-calmed-whirpool-workers-whipped-up-by-le-pen

Hollande somehow sunk to 4% in opinion polls and dared not to seek reelection, yet his hand-picked successor, who resiles from nothing I'm aware of, is the likely next president.

The difference is that Macron didn't hang out with reporters for a year going on and on with stories about all the horribly greedy women, children, disabled, & otherwise minority groups who pestered him asking for help from the government!

I suppose it's because I personally am on the left and I interact with people (and am one of those people) who would prefer center-left politicians be more left...but it gets tiring hearing people complain more loudly about insufficient left purity when the extremist right alternative is so extreme. At some point primaries etc. are over.

Hollande did that? Or Le Pen? One would wish the answer were obvious, but Hollande's ex accused him of mocking the poor. He being a Socialist president. Such being the destination of social-democratic state capitalism's reformist journey.

And the answer is Hollande, of course. The book the reporters subsequently published with all those quotes, plus some brutal gossip communicated to them by Hollande, is one of the things that contributed to that 4% approval rating.

Murray the Demonic Skull is sentenced to printing out and eating the Shitposting Thread instead. ETA: I’d say someone who’s basically “Hollande, but handsome” is not “marginally better” than someone from a party founded by literal Nazis.
