Another Christmas Market has been erected in town, and it changed them from "in walking distance" to "unavoidable" for me. I pass this new tiny one every day on my way to and from work. (Luckily it isn't opened in the morning.) So I give in to the Christmas Spirit and will have a Glühwein and a market food everyday until I become diabetic or die. By shoutbox vote, and because I'm glad to get it out of the way, today I consumed the German Classic Food, a Bratwurst. Sausage in your face! Well what is there to say, it's a Bratwurst, I never was the biggest fan. But as far as Bratwürste go, it was ok. Can't complain about the price either, getting to put a 10 inch sausage in my body for 3 Euros is fair. The bun is a cheap wheat bun, nothing to report there, besides I was actually happy to get to it, eating the sausage pure is a kinda hard on ye olde stomach. Especially when you have a Glühwein with it. (Glühwein is basically red wine with spices and lots of sugar added and then heated up. I take mine with a dash of Amaretto because when I get a headache anyway why hold back?) Let's just say the two don't sit too well together, I don't think I'm going to eat anything else this evening. Adding mustard to the Bratwurst probably made things worse, but since I came this far in my life with bad decisions why start to change now? Those of you who know what other terrible foods are offered at german Christmas Markets can give suggestions but I won't make any promises and may just eat something that I actually like. So until tomorrow when I will consume the next delicacy or atrocity.

You know what would have been better than mustard for a topping?
Ketchup. It's color fits the season.

Going to one of the other markets with wife and friend today, I'll see if I can find something more festive looking that won't have me drink ginger tea for the rest of the evening.

On my way to dc and what i'm most looking forward to, strangely enough, is the holiday market downtown by the metro center subway. The Virginia Chocolate Company (google them) makes the most delicious flavored chocolate truffles in beautiful colored foil. My tradition is to buy the biggest box I can afford and try to make them last till Xmas. They never do though.

Yesterday the wife, me and a friend went to one of the bigger Christmas Markets, but our stay was cut short because rain. So we quickly went over to the small Gay/Lesbian/Whateveryouliketobecalledtofeelincluded Christmas Market which is between two building with kind of an arc between them that functions as a roof. I wanted to go for pulled pork but then saw this: Of course, I had to get it. In reality though, even the Gay Burger does not look as advertised. You can thank my camera for putting it's focus somewhere in the background. But it wasn't actually half bad, huge (sadly pre-made) patty, lots of fried onions and some quite tasty sweet-chiliesque sauce. Also the bun was crispy which you seldom get with a burger. I couldn't finish it, since that Bratwurst I can only eat small servings, so the GamblingGal helped out. I also had three Glühwein with Amaretto and a beer, which is why I'm taking today off of the war on my stomach.

That is a very alarming gap between promotional pic and reality.

That is a very alarming gap between promotional pic and reality. I can't stop staring at these two photos because of that. It's shocking! And awesome.

Well, after a brief hiatus I'm back eating questionable Christmas Market food. Today I actually got something good, Prague Ham: I got a heap of it, in a bun of course because Christmas Market food needs to be in a bun: It doesn't look very good but was quite delicious. The Ham is very tender and tasty, there's Kraut somewhere under it that was good too and the Danish Remoulade works fine with it. Also it's 50 cents cheaper than the Gay Burger. Best Christmas Market food of 2015 AND 2016 so far. I don't even have stomach problems despite having two Glühwein with it! Alas, this isn't entertaining enough to bring this thread to life again, is it? I'm going to have to eat something horrible again, right?

Maybe I did. The Christmas Markets are officially over but they kept the one where you can ice skate, it's called 'Winter Market' or something along those lines. I could drag my rotting corpse there and see if they have anything interesting and/or horrible.
