Haven't seen the premiere yet but according to AVC it skips straight to Schmidt and Cece's wedding
Edit: So I read that wrong but it doesn't matter because I'm so glad to have this show back. I prefer the simple, shrug of a title card to that horrible photoshoot from last year. Can't decide if I miss Coach yet (if I do, well, I guess it's a good thing that Hulu just got Happy Endings). Glen flips off kids.

As soon as I saw Furguson back I knew Erik Adams would get the name wrong and he did (cc: 🐍 huss 🐍.)

I was out last night and didn't watch the episode until now! BRB, upvoting only the comments that spell Furguson's name correctly (thanks Douay-Rheims-Challoner!).

Smooth move, Furguson.

After seeing Fred's dance moves, I was expecting Jess to relent and attempt a purely kinesthetic relationship with him.

"I'm a cop prodigy."
That was legit fantastic. Maybe the main character going away for a while is something every sitcom needs.

I did not see that Reagan backstory coming.
But also I want more of Winston verbally sparring with his partner.

You'd think they'd mention that there's a Furguson in the apartment beforehand. People have allergies.

I find Megan Fox intensely irritating. Also she looks like a Persian cat.

Feeling decidedly lukewarm on the Reaganing of New Girl. The first two episodes without Jess suggests they don't need her. It was pretty funny when she punched Nick tho.

Winston/Cece is the pairing I never knew I always loved. The classic "Winston-Cece messaround!" Reaganing was pre-empted for me by a stupid college basketball game so I gotta catch up. I also need to go back and watch jury duty because travel into the central time zone screwed that evening all up. Sounds like a good project for my Valentine's day afternoon!

Just past the cold open and I hate her character already The best thing about last night's Reagan plot was Winston. As per usual.

Thought she was a little better in this episode. Her character has kind of temporarily ruined Nick, tho. Nothing about any of his behavior in Tuesday's episode was believable.
Winston is this show's easy comedic (and at this point dramatic) MVP, forever and ever amen.

Actually it turned out OK. New Girl is well done. I remember reading an intensive at AVC with the show runner. She fights and fights with the network so her creatives don't have to. Megan Foxification is not fatal.

It was the lowest bar possible to clear, but yeah, that was much better than the promos would have lead you to believe.

Which perhaps is the history of New Girl itself; the show once billed as the insufferably 'adorkable' sitcom of Zooey Deschanel. Having gone back through the first season (I didn't start watching regularly until around "Fluffer"), I don't really think that description ever really applied. I do recall the show being marketed that way but it wasn't ever like Jess was out riding a velocipede to a wax-cylinder listening party. Criticism along those lines still seems to pop up but eh, whatever. And yeah, it was much better than what I worried was going to be a hacky 'Winston and Nick compete to bang Reagan" sitcom plot. The bits with Schmidt and Cece venue-hunting were fun until the douche-bro showed up. I know he's supposed to be comedically awful but that sort of character just puts me off and I can't find humor in it.

Oh irony of ironies! I missed last night's episode because I was talking on the phone to the very person who convinced me to start watching New Girl way back when we were in grad school!
It was business-science-grant stuff so I didn't feel right telling her "Hey, uh, I know I'm the one who asked you to send me these materials and, it's great that we're talking about it, and you're helping me out a ton, but I really gotta get off here so I can watch mah stories."

This show is still funny 5 seasons on, but it's obvious to me it can't go on much longer. The wear and tear is quite visible in places. They're going for the Nick and Jess thing again and I couldn't be more happier! They almost ruined everything last time, they better not this time.
