Alan Rickman had that rare quality that did not make him the best actor necessarily, but made him an easy favorite for so many. No matter the film, no matter the role, as soon as he appeared on screen, you felt happier. He played an iconic 80's villain, he brought gravity to a Tim Allen comedy, he stole every scene he had across 8 movies in the biggest film franchise of all time, he even humanized the voice of god.
He will be missed.

What the shit is this week?! First Bowie, now Alan Rickman? What kind of a cruel world are we living in?
I'm gonna get drunk and watch Die Hard this weekend.

Donald Trump, God. Donald Trump. He's also 69. You kill Bowie and Rickman at 69 and allow Trump to go on existing? Are you trying to make me a Satanist?

Well, dammit.
I will remember Rickman best as Snape. He was absolutely perfect in that role. I remember seeing an illustration of Snape where he had a goatee and honestly just looked like your garden-variety stereotypical disreputable character trope in the original American edition of PoA, and thinking "Wait, Snape has a beard?!? That guy looks nothing like the character I'd imagined." But then Alan Rickman showed up as Snape in the films and I thought "There, that's pretty much what I think any sane person would imagine Snape looking like."
And of course, he was Hans Gruber, but he was also one of the best things about the H2G2 film playing Marvin the Paranoid Android. I feel like his part is just about the one thing about that movie that nobody should have any objections to, even if you hated the adaptation as a whole.

One of the best actors of the last 20 years. Don't forget the Sheriff of Nottingham, the villain in Quigley Down Under, and motherfucking Alexander Dane.

My mom and I were just talking about this yesterday! This has happened before; I talk about a celebrity and they die. Upon telling this to someone, they pointed out that this is likely because I talk about celebrities a lot.

You know you're in Ireland when you tell someone Alan Rickman died and their first reply is Eamon de Valera.

I can't think of a Rickman performance I didn't enjoy. He was one of those rare actors who, if I saw their name on a project, it would make me want to seek it out. Besides all the ones already mentioned, I also loved his performance as the Metatron in Dogma. He brought a huge measure of humanity to a character who was not a human.

I'm so bummed that we never got the Alan Rickman spoken word album boxset of him line-reading random things for four discs that we so desperately needed. I could've listened to him read the fuckin' phone book, it doesn't matter. That voice is iconic.
