A few years ago my friend Mike came over on a Wednesday to shoot the shit, have a few beers. By about midnight, we're both feeling good, he's ready to go home, because we both have work in the morning.
I'm a little drunk, and I want the party to keep going, so I say: "Let's hang out, watch a movie." Mike's like "Nah, it's late, got to get home."
And then I get an idea, put on a movie where the first scene is so cool, you have to watch the rest of the movie. I've got 2, so far, but I'm interested to see potential additions.

Stop the above before it gets to Jack (they amimated the scene for Numb-Butt-a-thon), and go to this...
Oh yeah, for Bowie and many other reasons...

Actually kind of hard to find the clips you want when you want them, but here are some:
Manhattan
Sunset Boulevard
Ed Wood
Citizen Kane

I'd say Melancholia has a pretty striking opening scene.

Does it count if the subsequent movie doesn't live up to the opening?
Here's Cube. I haven't watched it since 1997 but I remember being initially pumped and then progressively disappointed.
