This is my first day in the office all week owing to the lousy Smarch weather. Monday I took off as a personal day; Tuesday it snowed about 4-5 inches and so I telecommuted. Wednesday the roads were still icy and I doubted that the train station's parking lot had been plowed, much less salted properly, so I also telecommuted. Then yesterday was my usual telecommute day.
I'm mostly irritated by the deception of the sun. Looking out my office window is so lovely - blue skies, wispy little white clouds making their way across the horizon, trees swaying in the breeze - but it's goddamn 45 degrees today and I have to bundle up like Nanook of the North just to walk the 100 or so yards to the Metro to go home.
On the other hand, my allergies aren't trying to murder me anymore. They're just sharpening their knives, waiting for spring to REALLY get here.

I'd have thought that mid Smarch was too early for my hayfever to start, but according to the hour I spent this morning with my face exploding, apparently not.

It's supposed to get up to 85 today, here. I would have liked more than a few days of spring between winter and early summer.

Yesterday (first day of spring) was beautiful here, up in the 70's. I drove to a service call and back with the top down on the convertible. Today, it got up to 60 and was sunny for a few hours, then got cold and windy. Tonight...27 degrees. Next up, rain for the weekend. I just hope the following Saturday (Apr 1) is decent weather. That is the day of a local community sale. It's world famous throughout central Illinois, and we look forward to it each year.

It's been increasingly lovely the last couple of days, with a huge dent taken out of the accumulated ice and snow from last week as a result. There's ground to be seen in my front yard! The daffodils are back! Our driveway now only has one man-sized heap of plowed snow on it! WOO HOO! And then BOOM. It's supposed to be 19 overnight. What the hell??? (On the bright side, this looks like it might be the last gasp. I'll probably be able to plant our new fruit trees this weekend!)

Last night we got one of those traditional New Jersey March thunderstorms. Oh, wait, no. That's not traditional -- that's freaky and strange and whatthefuck? !! It was the craziest thunderstorm I've ever seen -- blinding lightning even with your eyes closed, house-shaking thunderclaps directly overhead, and hail rattling the windows. It lasted for ages, too, right on top of us. At three in the morning. I really appreciated having to get out of bed to get away from my window (that's how bad the hail was) in the middle of the night. But at least being up I got to enjoy the perpetual electric green of the sky. ::shudder:: Totally an End Of Times kind of storm. We don't need to do that again any time soon.

We have had such nice weather the last couple of days, I keep finding excuses to go run errands. In the convertible, with the top down.

A couple weeks ago we had a run of just about the best weather we've had since I moved down here: chilly morning, radiant, cool day not getting above the low 70s. It was glorious. Those kinds of days have been all to rare here. We were busy in the evenings all week and didn't eat until late, or I'd have made us try to eat on the patio: one of my favorite things to do this time of year.
Since then the humidity's crept back up. The closer the low temp is to the high, the stuffier it will be. Even if the high's only like 78, if the low is 68, it's gonna be muggy.

It's peak daffodil around these parts now! And the apple trees are starting to bloom! It's been a rough spring for most of the ornamental flowering trees and shrubs (our 25-foot-tall magnolia managed about six blossoms), but the orchard is like, "Can't stop me!" It's a nice change from last year, when we had a hard frost after the fruit trees blossomed. I'm hoping this might mean more peaches this summer.

We are having glorious weather. It's been in the 60s and 70s and the trees are blooming and Lilac Time is coming. Yay Lilac Time.
(Boo to not having a job and therefore not going to the beer tasting I was looking forward to)
It'll be a little cooler over the weekend but still springlike, at least.

Man, me too, but that's more a result of the climate control in my newish office being absolute garbage. I can't wait to go outside on this extremely chilly day to warm up. In other seasonal news, whatever conditions magnolias and forsythias require did not happen here this year. Those usually reliable spring blossoms were a complete no-show in this neck of the woods. But! Whatever conditions they hate lilacs apparently love. I have never seen so many glorious lilacs as we're having this year. I had no idea there were so many lilacs at all in my town! Pedantic Editor Type, if you guys are having a spring like ours, your Lilac Days should be spectacular!

We've barely hit 60 degrees and it's raining like crazy outside and that doesn't really bother me, but for some reason it's freezing in my office. I'm drinking tea to keep warm. We did get the forsythias! And we're now in lilac season too.

It was 102 yesterday and 103 today. And my AC was still not working.
I got home last night at 7pm and it was 82 inside. Can't open the windows because it is 97 outside. I called the regular maintenance line last night, thinking I would be okay if they just came by today. That was a big error. It was nearly too hot to sleep. I was sweating in bed.
Called the maintenance line again at 5am. Went to work. Didn't get a call. Called the main leasing office at 1pm to ask about it. They said my request was received and was on the worklist for today.
Got home at 7pm. Still not working. It is now 85 inside my apartment. Again, it is 99 outside, so I can't open a window to cool off.
Finally called the Maintenance EMERGENCY line. The AC being out is legally considered a maintenance emergency in Phoenix. Landlords are legally required to respond to AC emergency requests ASAP.
20 minutes later they knock on my door. Bam. Fixed. The guy says, "So sorry. No one was here today. We were called to a meeting at the corporate office." Bless you, guy. Have to spend all day at corporate meetings then come back out to work after hours? Thank you!
Ah, cold air! How I love thee!

I'm glad you were able to get it fixed - I keep my AC about 73 and I'm still a little warm sleeping at night. I can't even deal with 85 inside.

We won't get into my issues with the leasing office. Suffice it to say that this month I got a $50 discount on rent due to lack of communication and misinformation from the leasing office. Also, maintenance called me today to say they could now fix my problem. Ha! Sorry dude, you're too late. The boss came by last night and fixed it. Still better communication than I've had with the leasing office! We are in for some seriously weird weather coming up. It was 105 here today. Supposed to be 95 tomorrow with winds at 40mph. Then on Sunday..... 72. So, a drop of 33 degrees in 2 days. Edited: Updated numbers! We broke a record! The all time cool down record over a 3 day span. Friday: 108 Saturday: 95 Sunday: 74 So, that is a 34 degree cool down. Tomorrow they're calling for 80 and maybe rain? What? We may not see 90+ again until Friday? I'm counting down the hours until local media publishes the first "So much for Global warming!" interview.

I'm counting down the hours until local media publishes the first "So much for Global warming!" interview. Hugs and I were visiting Dallas once, and went outlet shopping with a friend. It was a fairly hot fall day, in the low 80's. As we were going into one store a brisk wind started to pick up. In the amount of time it took us to try on a couple of pairs of shoes and decide not to buy anything, that wind blew an entire cold front in. It was in the mid 50's when we walked back out to the car. Now, I'm not a stranger to this sort of phenomenon, being a big fan of the September thunderstorms in New Jersey that bring a big temperature drop in their wakes, but honestly, this was ridiculous. There wasn't even a storm! Sure, it got all blustery, but it's like it completely forgot to do the violent storm part, and instead was just like, "Boom. It's chilly now. Hope you bought a jacket when you were in that store."

Yesterday was nice, and last night was absolutely beautiful, clear with a few clouds, temps in the mid 70's. We put the top down on the convertible and drove to town and got some really amazing banana splits, which are the specialty of a local grill/custard stand. We took a scenic drive home enjoying the views and the weather.

It got back to "ahhh, Spring" and then yesterday was summerlike (87 and a little humid) after a random, fast-moving thunderstorm and round of hail overnight. Still warm today, but easing back closer to upper 70s with a few cooler dips, which I'm fine with - I didn't really want to have to turn the AC on yesterday but it was really stuffy in our house!
