We did it! We’ve made it to the end of season 6! Four episodes short by my count but here we are anyway, a season wrap-up post will be forthcoming but for now please rise and then be seated again for “Secret Admiral-lrer” (because why not have two -erer titled episodes right next to each other?) where once more Tina dominates the spotlight and has her concepts of love challenged in her quest for her next Thunder Girls badge and Bob starts running with a bad group. Second up is “Glued, Where’s My Bob?” which contains the kids engaged in a goop prank war and Bob ending up in the middle before a restaurant profile is to be written on them. It’s a finale so expect a song from people who cannot sing.
Tina is eternally the ingénue, the true love believer and sometimes it plays out well for others even if it never really seems to for her because she’s clearly chasing someone who’s gay. For her and her retirement friend Meryl in this week’s little encounter with love, it pans out really nicely for her because true love can exist even 60 years apart. The stuff with her and Meryl worked for me, it makes Tina seem more real if she shows critical thinking because often she seems to lack any especially with the letter writing and the subplot of Meryl’s nephew stealing from her was a nice little intrigue-based plotting. Generally, it’s one of the better kid plots for this season.
The B-plot for me actually shined for once, having limped along for a while. The idea of Bob getting caught in a world of constant late-night drinking with other chefs tickled me and it’s funny to me to see him lost in that. Overall, Tina comes out on top and Bob is a damaged man somehow lower than when he started, perfectly right for this show.
This season we didn’t have a two parter finale, opting instead for a two-episode run and I think it worked out well. This episode was all A-plot with Bob falling foul of getting stuck to the restaurant public bathroom because of the goop prank war and Teddy’s superspackle. I mean, I’d probably look before I sat down but then we wouldn’t have this story but we may have had a much more low-key one. Anyway, this episode was a fun little episode to wrap up this season with a lot of the ancillary characters showing up to see or at least hover nearby Bob stuck to a toilet. Did show the bonds that actually exist in this little seaside town and heck, even has a little redemption for a guy like Jimmy Pesto. The core of the episode is just about trying to get Bob off the toilet before these reporters from Coasters comes to do a thing and it’s really good for that.
Nice song too, a kicky number that fits in with the other Bob Burgers songs we get at the end of seasons; singing in rounds, usually with two people with cross intents, that sort of thing. Neither Jon Benjamin nor Kristen Schall are going into the singing business anytime soon but they can at least hit a specific key and the songs on here are sweet usually and this one is too. Feel a bit bad we don’t get more singing from the characters with this being a reasonably musical show but I can see why they don’t too. It’s a cool little send-off to see everyone bond around the Belchers like an unnaturally hairy man stuck to a toilet and it does show that for all the shit they go through, they can occasionally see a win.

“Wait, who’s Meryl?” “I think that’s an expression like ‘I just farted, don’t tell Meryl’.”

A-* | Solid from start to finish, managing to fit in some of the show’s cynicism and earnest schmaltziness and getting something great from it all. Lowered grade due to the Ollie and Andy Ding™ |

A+ | A winning episode but I have a habit of grading season finales higher usually on the back of the songs that are sung. Also, didn’t need to give it an Ollie and Andy ding which is always good though I may have heard them but I didn’t see them besides the credits so it doesn’t count. Oh, and this was apparently the 100th episode so yay! |
