Just curious, and figured this would be a good place to ask.

Just curious, and figured this would be a good place to ask. Seeing in theaters should be relatively easy to figure out - go here: www.boxofficemojo.com/yearly/For 2015, they have 1.32 billion tickets sold. US population is ~320 million, so that means the average American sees a little over four movies in a theater per year. If you started factoring in home viewing it would be extremely difficult to tell, because there's no way to track, say DVD views that I'm aware of.

Because I didn't go to a movie in the theater until four years old, and I suspect the numbers for that age and below will drag the average down a bit. On the other hand, I don't know anyone else, but my peak moviegoing years were around middle school (that may just be me though). We should find a way to break this down demographically.

Mine were college - there was a span I probably averaged one every other week at least. I suspect it varies pretty widely. If you want more information, this might be useful: www.mpaa.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/MPAA-Theatrical-Market-Statistics-2014.pdf

If you want more information, this might be useful: www.mpaa.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/MPAA-Theatrical-Market-Statistics-2014.pdfI don't know how useful this is, but since starting my 2007 project, I've compiled a list of every theatrically-released feature film I have ever seen. Accounting for a margin of error in which I have forgotten some, the current total is 712 films seen. I've seen 89 in theaters, not including re-releases like Chimes at Midnight this past January. Here's a full list. I think you can tell how old I was. 1994: 2 ( The Lion King, Lassie) 1995: 2 ( Pocahontas, Toy Story) 1996: 1 ( 101 Dalmatians) 1997: 6 ( Cats Don't Dance, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, Hercules, Men in Black, Air Bud, Flubber) 1998: 3 ( Paulie, Mulan, The Rugrats Movie) 1999: 5 ( The Phantom Menace, Inspector Gadget, Pokémon: The First Movie, Toy Story 2, Bicentennial Man) 2000: 5 ( The Road to El Dorado, Chicken Run, Digimon, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Dungeons and Dragons) 2001: 10 ( Recess: School's Out, Shrek, A.I., Final Fantasy, Rat Race, Monsters Inc., Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, The Lord of the Rings: the Fellowship of the Ring, Black Hawk Down) 2002: 10 ( Spider-Man, Attack of the Clones, Mr. Deeds, Men in Black II, Reign of Fire, Goldmember, Signs, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Eight Crazy Nights, The Lord of the Ring: the Two Towers) 2003: 5 ( Anger Management, The Matrix Reloaded, Pirates of the Caribbean, Lara Croft Tomb Raider 2, The Lord of the Rings: the Return of the King) 2004: 4 ( Super Size Me, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Napoleon Dynamite, The Village) 2005: 3 ( Revenge of the Sith, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, King Kong) 2006: 2 ( Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, Borat) 2007: 8 ( Spider-Man 3, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, Sicko, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, The Simpsons Movie, Superbad, The Darjeeling Limited, Walk Hard) 2008: 02009: 5 ( Whatever Works, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Funny People, The Informant!, The Invention of Lying) 2010: 2 ( Iron Man 2, Inception) 2011: 02012: 7 ( Safety Not Guaranteed, Moonrise Kingdom, Ruby Sparks, Sleepwalk With Me, Argo, Skyfall, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey) 2013: 2 ( Inside Llewyn Davis, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug) 2014: 2 ( The Grand Budapest Hotel, Gone Girl) 2015: 2 ( The Force Awakens, The Hateful Eight) 2016: 3 ( Hail Caesar!, Keanu, The Nice Guys) Yeah, I need to pick up the pace. Not including the years before I started going to theaters, my personal average is 3.869 films per year, (amazingly) slightly higher than the average American.
