Fireflies! I don't know if central IA is known to have a lot of them, but I don't think I've ever seen them everywhere like I do during the summer here. They're pretty common in June, and tend to go away by late July, only to get replaced by those fucking loud crickets. I love those fucking loud crickets! They're the best thing about summer. |

A rabbit. That wasn't too unusual, since that rabbit has been living out front for at least a year. The notable part today? Another rabbit. Yes, there are now TWO rabbits living somewhere in front of this house. Somehow, I expect I'll soon be seeing more than two rabbits.  |

A big Heron swooping down, standing around in the shallow water, catching, and eating a rather large fish. It took a few "flip the fish into the air, catch it, do some chomping, repeat" tries but it got it all down!
On the same lake: a bunch of garbage geese. At least they weren't being garbage birds in a parking lot, but they still weren't what you'd call "majestic."

He was kicking back, sipping on a 40 of MGD in a paper sack and trying to be surreptitious with the one-hitter. OK, OK, it was a parade. Which also featured 2/3 of our Congressional delegation. |

Saw a mouse climb a chain link fence and then a metal pole onto which a bird feeder was attached. It then went into said bird feeder and started chowing down on seed. This mouse was like the Tom Cruise (in Mission Impossible) of mice.

They were driving those little plastic battery powered kid cars that replaced pedal cars. They were smacking into each other with reckless abandon at about 3 miles an hour. I didn't stay for all of it, but I suspect the car with the best battery won. |

Pitchfork highlights (not counting bands): 1. A girl avidly reading Sons & Lovers while holding her spot against the barricades for Sufjan Stevens. I was on the other side of the barricades and wanted to yell across to her that I was reading Sons & Lovers too, but instead I just snapped a picture. She seems like my kind of people.  2. When people started tossing beach balls, one kid caught a ball, took a bite out of it, and tossed the deflated ball back to the sender. Still makes me chuckle. |
