I nominate Light in August by William Faulkner. It's a brilliant exploration of racism, misogyny, identity, memory, inevitability, and hope, and it's one of my all-time favorite books. I've been wanting to reread it for a while now, both because of its (depressing) relevance to society today, and to take another look at what Faulkner does so brilliantly in the novel (as well as the moments in the book where the author's insights fall disappointingly short of expectations).
