And the winner of the poll for August/September Book Club is Canopus in Argos: Archives, Re: Colonised Planet 5, Shikasta: Personal, Psychological, Historical Documents Relating to Visit by Johor (George Sherban), Emissary (Grade 9), 87th of the Period of the Last Days by Doris Lessing, although apparently it's also acceptable to refer to the novel as just Shikasta. Anyway, post your thoughts on Canopus in Argos: Archives, Re: Colonised Planet 5, Shikasta, Personal, Psychological, Historical Documents Relating to Visit by Johor (George Sherban), Emissary (Grade 9), 87th of the Period of the Last Days below!

It took me the better part of a couple of years to get all the Canopus in Argos books digitally, and I've fruitlessly searched for Philip Glass's operatic production of one of them (only recorded once, by the BBC, and incomplete due to some error, and then never published in any form) for as long.
I've put off actually reading the books because the reviews I find tend to be wildly varied as to opinions on it, so I'll be watching this thread with great interest.

I found them all at a used bookstore last July. The books I mean. Given the aforementioned wildly diverging opinions on the series, I'm a bit uneasy about purchasing all of them, but they were all pretty cheap, and in far better condition than my very 70s used copy of The Golden Notebook. Also, general thread update, I've just started Shikasta, and am on page 12, so I'll probably post my thoughts in a couple of days once I've made substantive progress.

I’ll also be participating—I read Shikasta a couple of years ago but I think it’s still fresh enough in my memory for me to join in. Like Douay-Rheims-Challoner I found it in electronic form (along with The Making of the Representative for Planet 8, which I actually read first).
