You thought I'd just stop with peanut butter? What am I, a savage?

No raspberry? You are a savage. I've checked with the people at Webster's they tell me that technically raspberry can fall under the heading of Other. I'll put you down for that.

This stuff is worth mail-ordering I also had a fondness for the crabapple jelly we made as Girl Scouts - a nice subtle flavor.

If I'm just having toast, butter and jam, or PB&J I go with strawberry. If I'm overseas, raspberry. If I'm pairing with cheese, tomato or shallot/onion.
Q: What's the difference between Jelly and Jam? A: You can't jelly your *POST FLAGGED FOR MODERATION*

I tend to go for orange marmalade most frequently, but I'm a big fan of peach, blueberry, and strawberry as well. A good cherry butter is quite nice as well.

No raspberry? You are a savage. This is what I came to say! How is raspberry not one of the baseline options? IT'S TOO GOOD TO BE "OTHER".

I voted apricot, because I like it, but really I'm almost a non-participant.
Mrs. Snape doesn't like any jam or jelly, so I'd be the only one eating it, and my pace using it is so slow that I inevitably throw it out, even as long as it lasts. On rare occasion I'll say, "Goddammit, I want some jelly!" and I'll buy a jar, only to use it once, maybe twice, and then allow it languish in the fridge for a year or so before giving it the toss.
<bread> + butter + <jelly/jam> is not a big part of my life.

I went with Other b/c of the raspberry issue as noted by others, and that's what lemon curd likely would fall into. Cactus jam is pretty good as well.
But not at all adverse to Strawberry preserves. Especially mixed with cottage cheese.

Actually I'm with you, and I'm the one who created the poll! Bread isn't a very big part of my life, jelly even less so. But I do have fond memories of it, and occasionally will indulge. I also have jars in my fridge that are probably way too old and need to be tossed.

I feel like I did when my parents were lecturing me after my liberal arts education didn't really pay off.

To be honest, I eat very little jam in jam form, too. I use it in cooking all the time (and raspberry isn't something I'm normally looking for to pair with, way, pork chops), but don't do bread + jam really ever. That said, if I have to consume jam in a traditional way, raspberry is by far my favorite. So for the purposes of this poll, that's how I was thinking.

I've never been much for jelly or jam. Honey goes on my peanut butter. I'd rather have fresh fruit then any kind of preserve. I didn't even like cobbler pies when I was a kid.
We do have a big jar of orange marmalade that my mother-in-law made, and I'll occasionally put some on toast for something different.

Raspberry for generics, except Hartley's which is an abomination of a jam maker. For specifics, there's a local maker that makes strawberry and prosecco jam and that's pretty good. Normally I'd go for a lemon curd or plain old butter before jam however.

I'm good with everything except for grape that tastes like cough syrup and stuff that has waaaay too many seeds in it (so raspberry usually).
My go to has been Ikea lingonberry or cloudberry.

I voted strawberry but will also note I make a kick ass crabapple jelly whenever I can get them. My friend's parents have a tree that produces really nice sized fruits but I have a hard time being able to go pick them at the right time.
Also, how are we handling apple butter? Cause I make it when I get apples on the cheap and eat the fuck out of it on pancakes.

One of the very few things that I discovered while working at McDonald's oh, so many years ago, that I actually still eat and enjoy making at home, are English muffins with butter and strawberry jam. GF made me one for breakfast this morning, bless her heart. I may just go make another one.

Saw this in my recent travels. First off I've never seen jam outside of a little glass jar or a little plastic square container. I liked the idea you could squeeze this one out easily. And I suppose the packaging might be less wasteful. Also I'm making up for not including raspberry on the original poll.

Wow, this thread is just what I was looking for!
A friend of mine has the impression that apricot jam is a "Jewish thing", because she has read somewhere (fanfiction) that it is traditionally served with challah. She says she never found it in stores where she lived previously, but now that she has moved to a place with a larger Jewish population, she is able to find it.
I'm definitely not an expert on "what foods are considered a Jewish thing", but that one sounds more to me like something that got put in one fic because the author's family does it, and now it has been picked up by other people in the fandom, rather than a traditional accompaniment with the bread. Because fuck knows that happens like whoa.
SO. Apricot jam: "a Jewish thing" or not?

SO. Apricot jam: "a Jewish thing" or not? I've never seen it as a Jewish thing. I'm Jewish, but never lived in a super-Jewish area (I've mainly lived in cities in the Deep South), and I can't remember ever not seeing it in stores.

SO. Apricot jam: "a Jewish thing" or not? Considering how often I see it as a sauce/glaze ingredient for pork dishes, I'm going to go with "not".

I grew up in a Catholic household (though there is some speculation that going back far enough we were Sephardic Jews who were forced to convert) and we had it frequently.
