For future updates, should anything new come of this.

It could be an open world RPG about Communist bandits in 1920s Inner Mongolia.

"The game’s vast and atmospheric world will also provide the foundation for a brand new online multiplayer experience."
Did that really need to be in the two sentence brief announcement

I wrote some forum post many years ago about how awesome an open-world game set during the Russian civil war would be, I'm glad to see others are of the same, Ungern Von Sternbergy, mind. Reds! Whites! Cannibals! The Aforementioned Inner Mongolian Crazy warlords! Fucking Machine Gun Wagons! It's got it all.

I've been playing the original Red Dead Redemption, I finished the main campaign and have been playing the DLC Undead Nightmare.
It's an outstanding game and I'm bummed the sequel got pushed back to next year, I'm also bummed that Rockstar is playing games with the possibility of a PC port again just like they did with the first game, which is part of the reason why I haven't played the entirety of RDR until this year.

I played the game on my 360 and bought Undead Nightmare, but got an error message trying to install it, promptly forgot about it and never tried again. The game itself was beautiful though.

RDR ends really well, and not at all surprisingly, but part of me always wanted Rockstar to forego the obvious conclusion by ending earlier. I so wanted during one of those "slice of life" missions on Marston Ranch for the credits to start rolling right over the gameplay. You could keep playing, but there would no more story-relevant missions. Life would just go on and you could herd cattle and go hunting and shit, just endlessly.

I finished Undead Nightmare and while it was fun, eh, I'm not sure it was worth 10$, what I enjoyed the most was simply being able to revisit some of the characters.
Oh and hunting Sasquatch, that was cool and worth the price of admission alone I guess.

Looks great! Not sure who this new guy is, but he seems quite a bit more chaotic than John Marston. Also, confirmed for being a prequel because that Dutch guy is still alive at the end of the trailer.

Seems like with such a vast world there would be more than one group of people worth telling stories about, so kind of disappointed in that. Also I think the fact that you could play John "straight" is part of what made RDR so great so I hope the new guy isn't just a standard Rockstar psychopath.
Trailer looks incredible obviously.

I never played John Marston as anything other than an upstanding citizen.

Hoping it is a fake-out. My first play through of a game is always good. The second play through I'm a dick.

I never played John Marston as anything other than an upstanding citizen. Same here, while I'm a little disappointed that you don't play as a younger John Marston, at the same time a new character frees you up to be more of a bastard, which is going to be fun.

What you do is you wear a bandana over your face. When you're in regular citizen mode you can donate money to a nun, then you put on the bandana, chase after her, and rob her of the rest of her church money.
Then you tie her up and drag her behind your horse as you gallop through the desert, and then when that gets boring you sprinkle bait on her and hide behind some bushes as you wait to see if wolves will eat her.
Your morality score is never impacted and you remain a paragon of virtue to the community.

Your morality score is never impacted and you remain a paragon of virtue to the community. But it still "broke character" for Marston, he just didn't seem like a guy who would do stuff like that, at least not at that point in his life. I myself when playing threw on a bandana and robbed the Armadillo bank at one point, but it just didn't feel right and that was the end of John Marston's life of crime in 1911. Grand Theft Auto IV had a similar problem in that Niko didn't seem like a guy who would run over pedestrians just for kicks, but Rockstar cleverly solved the issue in V by having multiple protagonists, one of whom was Trevor who was psychotic and thus you could do whatever you wanted as him and it made sense. So for this new guy in RDR2 I plan on making him a full on outlaw, though maybe one who is still willing to help people out sometimes. Also, I wonder if you can actually sleep with the prostitutes this time.

This is why you do all the chaos and not save! I would routinely load up GTA IV and RDR to just fuck around for an hour and then never save. How else was I going to get the survive 5 minutes on a 6 star wanted level achievement.

Still extremely excited, even if it's going the GTAV route of releasing almost two years after the first reveal. It's always best to temper expectations etc etc, but Rockstar have a pretty perfect track record.
Y'know apart from taking five years off to dick around with GTA Online.

I just can't get excited for this game. Maybe it is because I have reservations with what happened with GTA V in the end, that it is a prequel, that the first one was such a complete story/experience. Like, I have no need or any particular big want for RDR2. I wish they would have just made another Vice City game, or went back to liberty city.

Noted. I have six months to get my shit together well enough that I can justify buying a PS4.

I'm feeling really conflicted about this. On the one hand, RDR was my introduction to open-world games and it sparked a sea-change in my life in terms of what I look for and expect out of the pop culture I partake in. On the other, the plot description sounds like a FX show I have no interest in watching. A commenter on Polygon summed it up saying that in RDR you seek redemption for all the looting and killing you did in your past life, and in this game you get to... do all the looting and killing? That doesn't sound appealing. I'm hoping there's a lot more to this game and that they're just selling it that way to get lots of bros to buy the game. Or, conversely, I suppose I'm hoping there's a lot less to this game and I can spend late fall this year just tooling around the desert on a horse, occasionally stopping into town for a game of poker or horseshoes, while completely ignoring whatever stupid anti-hero shit is in the main storyline.
