My office has 2 kegs, one in the break room and one in the development area, which are usually stocked with $1-a-pint beer. Since our office is full of the kind of guys who think having a beard proves you're a man, and that the only legitimate type of beer is beer you can only drink one of, the kegs usually represent fancy-ass stouts and porters with ABVs of 8+%, or occasionally some pretentious Belgian saison (I really hate beers that can be described as "spicy"), so I rarely drink at work. But today they replaced one of the crazy stouts with something you can actually drink in the summer - a delightfully crisp pear cider! so I'm drinking one of those, and praying that when it's gone we get a nice sensible pilsner or something.

Apropos of nothing, every person I know who is super in to dark, strong and ultra-manly stouts is a woman. One of them is even amongst us on this very forum. (I love them too, but your comment interested me.) Utterly naive question: when are you allowed to drink at work? Like, what is the policy? Is it an after hours thing or special circumstances thing? And what do you do? Also, quick follow up, can I have your job?

Theoretically we're allowed to drink whenever we want, although obviously being unable to do our jobs because we're drinking would be bad. I drink at work pretty rarely, because I'm already disinterested enough without having a beer and getting dozy. Beers are free after 3 on Friday, but the $1 we're supposed to pay the rest of the time is on the honour system; the mini-keg of pear cider disappeared within 48 hours, and there was only $3 in the payment jar, so we all got a stern reminder to pay for our damn beer. Also yes, you can have my job.

I just finished mowing the lawn and am shvitzing like crazy, and as it's still early I'm not drinking beer. Instead I'm drinking club soda mixed with a homemade mint, basil and cucumber simple syrup - really refreshing.

It's a shame I always try to do the mowing no later than 9:00 am, because immediately after is the perfect situation for a beer, but it's always too early.

Just drinking my own stuff tonight. Combination of my milk stout at 8.4% and my cherry-apple cider at 10.5%. I've had way too much for a Wednesday night...
...he says as he pours another glass of cider.

Only half a glass of chardonnay left? Tsk, better top it off with half a glass of zinfandel and another ice cube. Proprietary blend.

Finally got a bottle of Aperol, so you better believe I'm having an Aperol spritz right now!

Had a Great Lakes Lake Erie Monster last night, and I thought it was delicious. Monster is a double/IPA, so it was malty and slightly sweet with just a hint of hops. 9 percent too, so that never hurts.

I mixed my last shot of Smirnoff orange with some linginberry concentrate mixed with club soda and added a slice of lime. It was pretty good. I need a name for it. Something with an umlaut, perhaps?

Finally tried Not Your Father's Root Beer. Didn't like it very much, but it makes a pretty tasty float.

It's right next to the Build-Your-Own six pack selection at my Kroger. I've eyed it many times but never taken the plunge. I'm hoping I'll be able to sucker a taste somewhere, because $10.99 is more than I want to pay for six bottles of hard root beer that I don't think I'll like.

Great Lakes is one of those well known and highly regarded craft brands that we don't get in Texas. I've heard so many good things. I want to try their Chillwave IPA.

I remember liking it, but I really like root beer. (Just not with ice cream added to it... )

I can only handle a bit of clove in the background. (Which is why I am super picky about chai tea.) The ice cream mellowed it out beautifully. LazBro, I got mine at Trader Joe's, $2 a bottle.

Aviation? Or is it just mouthwash? It's a gin and tonic made with this: It's lavender flavoured and was pretty good but I assume there's some good ole food coloring involved.

This is from a few weeks back but this thread needs more love drinks! Consists of red-currant-induced gin, fresh orange and lemon juice, honey. I've learned that this is very good and that I suck at making decorative cests.

It's been pretty hot here this week, so on the weekend Signora Pasta made grilled watermelon daiquiris. Very nice, especially on a hot day sitting on the patio.

The supermarket has some Jameson Caskmates Stout Edition marked down to about $15. This is easily the best Irish Whisky I have ever had. It is just so smooth.
