It’s Christmas with the Belchers here for this year’s seasonal episode entitled “The Last Gingerbread House on the Left”. Within this tale, Bob gets roped into spending time with Mr. Fischoeder and his friends and Linda and Teddy take the kids carolling which I’m sure will go well and not have a vaguely heart-warming sentiment.
I will always admit to a lot of love for Mr. Fischoeder episodes (bar ‘Topsy’ which I simply don’t hold in very high regard) and this one doesn’t really fail, tapping into that Scrooge/Cratchit dynamic Bob and Calvin have with each other even outside of seasonal stuff like this. Anyway, the episode introduces a whole new bunch of eccentric old rich men for us to appreciate with their strange eccentric old rich men affectations, holiday gathering to construct gingerbread houses and feel sorry for Felix where even at his most lucid and non-shrieky he’s still pushed off to the sidelines being the younger Fischoeder. Outside of that, Teddy once again slides into place as replacement Bob figure to Linda and the kids and seem to do incredibly well at it making you wonder how a catch like him remains out on the market before you remember what happened with his boat.
So, sentimentality is pretty softball with Linda’s strange delusions of carolling what with figuring wassailing for hot chocolate and cider still occurs and tales of a murderer making me feel like the Belcher’s seem to have a pretty loose grasp on reality in general and often lead fanciful inner lives. In all it does explain how even though they’re not a traditionally affectionate family, they still exude love that’ll confuse me having never encountered love that pure before but they’re fictional so I can’t see why it bugs me really but even Teddy wasn’t the most prominent character which does for me show how different this episode was and even had minimal Tina which is always a bonus.

A | A definite hit, comes close to topping last year’s Nice-Capades and definitely earns a place on the top episode list. |
