Has anyone heard of it? From what I understand form a non techie friend who described it to me, it's an app that allows one to stream content downloaded by others. Kind of like torrents except with streaming instead of downloading. Just wondering if anyone has had any exposure to it or knows someone who has.

Kodi is just the new version of XBMC. It is a home theater application. I used to use XBMC to stream movies from the PC in my living room to a Raspberry Pi in the bedroom. When it switched to Kodi, I moved over to PLEX. They are pretty similar, I have just found PLEX a bit more user friendly for my particular setup. What your friend is probably referring to is that since you can access your media library remotely, you could share it with others. It really depends on your home bandwidth though. So you would not be able to share it with too many people or it would destroy your upload speeds. It is not really an alternative to torrents or downloading, but among a small groups of known friends it could be a good way to get access to a much larger media library.

The way it was described to me was as you described it, streaming to friends, except that it was complete strangers streaming to each other. Although not sure if that is literally the case based on what you say that would do to upload speeds. Hmmm. Ok. Well thanks for filling in the blanks a bit!

I am only familiar with Kodi as an app on my Amazon firestick. You can stream pretty much any tv show or movie from the app. Some current shows get updated regularly and some don't.
You just use one of the ...channels? or what have you for either TV or Movies and there are programs listed on there. I do not send anything to anyone and I do not know who uploads things to it. I just use it as an alternative to connecting my laptop to my tv.

Kodi content comes from a variety of sources. It's not so much that it's other individuals out there sharing as much as it scrapes content from other places and lets you more conveniently browse it. You can plug various bits into it that let you grab legitimate streaming feeds, people rebroadcasting live tv streams and other blocks of server based content.
