This is awful. To the TOC article, I can confirm that Miss Anthropy was a real person. Apart from any possibility that her death was faked, too (which, given that she had a very, very common name, would be hard to find), I'm confident she wasn't a catfisher. And the people who have met me from here no that I'm too real. Yep, and by association, Monty and I exist too. I'd go find the selfie threat photo (too poor quality to be 'shopped) but I'm lazy. |

The internet is fuckin' crazy.
I had this friend from another online community who was going through cancer treatment and we all banded together to buy her a Kindle and have it hand-delivered to her apartment in Seoul (For real! One of us had a military husband stationed there!) annnnnnd you know the end of this story. Same kind of thing - someone got a weird feeling, did some difficult detective work, and there we were.
In the end I enjoyed chatting with the persona she created, so in a way who cares, right? But we're still not sure who we handed a Kindle to.
The internet is fuckin' crazy.

I met Miss Anthropy. Celebith met her. A couple others met her. If she was catfishing us, then it was really well done, because it would require her to stay to her story.
The biggest, weirdest thing, for me (apart from whoever wrote that doc), is that E. Buzz Miller was a prolific poster sans a bevy of personal venting, similar with OperaPunk, who genuinely engaged in the content, and only after the commetariat started creating more personalized threads (like SL and TI) did they join in, to my recollection. Which would indicate that whoever ran one or both accounts either improvised it all over almost a decade (possibly requiring more than one phone in order to text folks), or, when things started getting personal, turned a switch and began a double life.
Anyway, something is fishy about this doc, too. No matter how "well documented" this appears to be, there's an awful lot of happenstance going on.

If it is, then it could potentially be a current or former AVC staffer, as I've heard it alluded to that ZMF (who, fuck, recorded an in-house audio commentary for Crank 2 for them) is one of the writer's persona. In the same way that it's alluded to that Tarkovsky's Former AD is also a writer, and the barely-a-secret that Cookie Monster is Mike Vago (who had been commenting as Cookie for years before his job with AVC) |

Munchausen-by-Internet is endlessly fascinating to me. My preferred avenue for goofing off on the internet, after this place of course, is reading longform journalism, and nothing delights me more than a juicy story about how a Munchausen-by-Internet person got exposed. Obviously, I feel terrible for people who get scammed, and also feel terrible for the people who commit this stuff, since clearly there are serious issues they're struggling with. But man, this stuff is SO incredible. The brazenness of the lies! The lengths the liar will go to in order to build their story! The way suspicions get tamped by social pressures and niceties! The eventual "OMG, it was so obvious, how did anyone ever believe this???"! Just utterly, utterly fascinating. |

I finally finished the Google doc and now I want to vomit. And call Interpol. I can only imagine how violated I'd feel if I ever actually interacted with the fuck, or was the innocent person he was claiming to be married to. Jesus fucking Christ. MrsLangdonAlger or swagonion , can one of you reach out to AVC and have them take down that obituary? At least per that document, someone has already told the AVC, though I'm not sure what all they can do. |

I just did sleuth the imdb page.
During his time on AVC, his IMDB history is pretty sparse, in terms of forum usage. Literally only a page worth.
But from January 10th, 2017 to now he's fucking PROLIFIC. Posting only on the politics page, hundreds of a times a day, practically. So much so that they've racked up 41-FUCKING-PAGES of comments.
Similarly with ratings, it stays relatively dead up until almost exactly a year ago, when a few more than usual start popping up. And then, again, in January, they just fly off the roof.
People who know/knew him better can investigate his prose and determine if the style is similar. They really didn't give a shit about hiding the E.BuzzMiller moniker and history on IMDB.

I could have sworn people met Buzz. Also didn't someone here go to his funeral?
The only thing about Buzz that ever raised a flag for me was all the instances of him supposedly being "hacked" and having his account hijacked. Repeatedly.
I just don't understand what the endgame to all this was. Someone created a false persona, to go on pop culture sites, comment at length knowledgeably about the subject, be generally friendly with people (so much so he got a goddamned award for it one year!)? He was on there for years. Then out of the blue he fakes his own death? Why do all that? And then this person created a whole other persona that was his "wife" too?
