With the approaching Discus Demise and Kinja-pocalypse (Thanks Ben Grimm ), I think it is vitally important for us to take a moment to reflect on what will be lost if the previous comments are deleted. I would like each of us to post our favorite examples of the weird, disgusting, subversive, and truly sublime comment threads of AVC History. To begin, I offer the classic Holiday Pants Crapping Thread.

Does anyone have a method for saving some of these? I started saving some Trek review threads by selecting the comments, going to “print selection only” and saving the comments as a pdf, but that doesn’t seem to work for me anymore.

We mustn't forget some of the great Simpsons Classics, in particular Last Exit to Springfield and Marge vs. the Monorail.

I'm an egocentric bastard, so all my favorite comment threads are those begotten by things I posted. Hopefully these will all be preserved via my Disqus account. If they aren't I'm going to be totally pissed.

One of the best lines from the 'chill pill' argument: No offence but I've noticed that you're friendly with a poster who told me she wished someone would shoot me with a 'beautiful gun'. Have I ever said anything as remotely rude to or about you?

That thread almost singlehandedly wins the argument for allowing unregistered comments.

Wow. Anytime I am nostalgic for those old-time holiday dinners with my relatives, I can just re-read that thread. It's pretty much the same in spirit.

Just for the record, as long as Disqus still exists, the comment threads will exist on Disqus pages. The accounts and threads are not going away, per se, they just won't appear on avclub.com anymore. Even with deleted articles, the comment threads still exist -- for instance the E Buzz obit comment page still exists.

Say goodbye to the Disqus-pocalypse, say hello to the Kinja holocaust.

Like the Buzz one, and the deleted racist rant Hatesong article, and so on. How can one search for them on Discus? What about the Holy Grail of lost comment threads, the Great AVC "New Comment System Test Debacle" comment thread, does it exist anywhere?

I remember the comment thread about Emily Gruntlesburger being assaulted being an absolute fucking disaster; the comments got closed and then the article disappeared. In fact, I think it was only shortly afterwards that they brought in mandatory registration.

But when you click on your profile and that sidebar pops up, if you click on "view in discussion" it takes you to the disqus page, not the AV Club page. The format seems to be disqus.com/home/discussion/avclub/[article url] Here's the AV Club disqus page: disqus.com/home/forum/avclub/I feel like that spot.im debacle may or may not exist anywhere, but certainly not on disqus.

All the comments on this article are great, but Dr. Robuttnick saved the original draft of the The Fourth Man review in the comments. "Krabbé navigates a landscape where the where there are no boundaries betweenboundaries between reality and reality and nightmare :cease to exist."

Bubbye, all those AV Club Undercover MP3 links. (Not that I've really bothered since 2015 anyway...and the links will still be live and available via the Music Board here.)

There was one time some New Kids On the Block fans invaded an article but I can't find it now... Oh yeah, that was an all-timer. It was on one of the Local AVClub articles, when they had city-based content, and then it got nuked when they all folded up. Even the staff were mad when they realized it was gone.

I recall a 'William Joel' song title thread that stemmed from a Hater entry railing on Gwyneth Paltrow's GOOP site. I'd love to read that again.

More about preserving the articles than the comments, but I loved these two O'Neal classics.
