ELI5:
What's the business case for making things harder to download? Referring specifically to file storage platforms here. Every time Google Drive updates its UI, the download function gets nested deeper and is harder to find or less convenient to use. Bruhs, this is why Drive exists!
I just spent more than two minutes in a shared Google Drive folder looking for a way to download a file without opening it. It's not in the top toolbar, it's not in the right-click menu. Now it's only available as an option on mouse-hover, waaaaaaay over to the right of my screen nowhere near the file name.
Why?!
Business case is probably the force people to acclimate to using the cloud as their primary storage, rather than overflow deep storage/emergency back-up, because that will force people to keep their subscription forever. Plus, if it's hard to download, you need to make sure you maintain that space for anything important. I could easily see limiting downloads on some sort of nonsense premise, either to force you to upgrade for unlimited downloads, or make it impossible to leave the environment without losing data, or (more likely) both.

If anyone was looking for a meatless option for Turkey Day

Do USAans use the phrase "turkeys voting for Christmas"? Or do you relate it to Thanksgiving instead, as that's your turkey day? Or do you just not have an equivalent at all and have no idea what I'm talking about and why would turkeys get to vote?

I got a spam email today from "Arthur Brown". Turns out that Arthur Brown is still alive. Though I doubt the email was really from him.

Weeks ago, I got a survey in the mail from the Neilsen ratings people. I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS MOMENT SINCE I WAS A CHILD
...Then I promptly misplaced it.
It came with two actual dollar bills, and told me I would receive an additional five dollars if I sent it in before November 21.
I dropped it in the mail today.

How did we end up with six active "headlines" threads on this page?

How did we end up with six active "headlines" threads on this page? Because seven would obviously be ridiculous.

It literally has never occurred to me that I could purchase a weighted stuffed animal of a semi-realistic spider, and now I'm worried my bank account will never recover.
THANK YOU!!! But also DAMN YOU!!!

I was watching The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe last night and I realized something I hadn't thought of before. As you know, Lucy enters Narnia first and when she returns the other three don't believe her. Then Edmund gets in and meets Lucy there, but when Lucy runs to Peter and Susan when she and Edmund get back, he lies and says they were just playing. So then finally all four of them get in to Narnia, and in the book Peter immediately says to Lucy "I apologize for not believing you. I'm sorry. Will you shake hands?". Which is great! But in the movie, he looks at Lucy and says while kind of laughing, I don't suppose apologizing would be any good (or words to that effect). Lucy throws a snowball at him, and they move on.
He never actually apologized in the movie! It was a non-apology. And I remember when I was a child thinking that Peter was so awesome for immediately apologizing to Lucy for not believing her. What would it have hurt to have that line stay in the movie?

Heh, I'm watching the last bit of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, and I'm mad about another thing! Why are wolves bad guys in Narnia? That's a bit rude!

So I haven't logged on in 6 years... What's changed in that time? Not much. 2018-2024 has been a pretty uneventful period everywhere. It's like no time has passed at all.

So I haven't logged on in 6 years... What's changed in that time? That new Star Wars trilogy finished up and we're primarily a Qanon forum now, but with a strong Marxist bend. Eating babies in pizza shops shouldn't just be for the political elite. The people* should rise up and seize the means of adrenal gland extraction! *We look forward to you weighing in on our threads on what should legal constitute a "person"

I know they are very different people, and I know that one=good and the other=bad, but whenever either comes up in an article I can never, in the moment, remember which is which:
Carla Gugino Gina Carano

For years I thought Carla Gugino was the lady from Hot Shots! and Hot Shots! Part Deux so when I read this I assumed Gina Carano was the Hot Shots! lady but nope, that's yet another *t*l**n actress, Valerie Golino

I just completed a Captcha that required me to pick pictures with motorcycles, and Captcha apparently includes a moped under that term.

This is not even close to the point, of course, but... are Bert and Ernie "Disney-owned" ?? No, right? Like, if Disney owned Elmo, we would know, right?

No, Disney owns the Muppet Show muppets (Kermit, Miss Piggy, Gonzo, etc), but not Sesame Street. Sesame Street is owned by nonprofit Sesame Workshop (formerly Children's Television Workshop).
