!!!!! Those are going on next week's grocery list. So I tried these. You know how an apple pie candle smells? That's exactly how they taste.

Gonna maybe bend the implicit / loose "rules" of the novelty food bit as I kinda threw the idea out initially. (I assumed it would apply to pre-packaged standard flavours, but whatever rocks your socks.) After hanging out with a friend on the weekend and deciding that eating my feelings is the best approach to dealing with confusion, I ordered two small pizzas from a local place that I've more or less ignored, given that it's somewhat astonishing that our tiny burbtopia even has a place to get takeout pizza, and the warmed over slice or two I had from there before was pretty mediocre for the price and had been sitting around too long. And hey, at least rampant overdevelopment and speculative investment means I can finally get decent pizza that doesn't have to be delivered from the next town over. Anyway, I got two pies, listed as follows: "Korean Kimchi": - Kimchi (duh. this is the selling point)
- Pepperoni
- mushroom
- green pepper
- bacon
- red onion
and the god tier one that was WAY better than I expected...
"Mr. Anchovies":
- anchovies
- black olives
- hot peppers
- pineapple
- cheddar cheese (in addition to standard mozzarella and tomato sauce)
I tried the kimchi one and thought "ehh, it's okay. nothing special. they just slapped kimchi on pizza." it was better the next morning, even when cold, because kimchi can elevate most anything. there just wasn't enough going on otherwise to really differentiate it from a standard pizza. maybe the bulgogi one would've been better, b/c marinated beef is always great and bulgogi is especially delicious. should've taken advantage of the option of garlic as a free topping, perhaps, or maybe tried to get them to substitute pepperoni out for bulgogi for a small upcharge. PLUS the garlic. it was fine, but standard pizza. as for Mr. Anchovies... holy. fucking. BANANAS. I had a slice of that after the kimchi, feeling rather bemused about the entire order in the first place and not really expecting much after the letdown of kimchi. (should've really tempered my expectations, but idk... I love kimchi.) JESUS FUCK. I had one bite and my brain lit up. I know anchovies are a love / hate thing for most people, but y'know what? do you like salt? that's what they're for -- briney goodness with a dash of that fishy goodness! I'm sure anchovies / pineapple / hot peppers are a fairly standard combo, in retrospect. (haters re: pineapple on pizza -- I pity your pineapple-less existence. your sex life must somehow be worse than my practically nonexistent one.) pounded half of the anchovy pizza right then and there. I really didn't need to order two small pizzas (and I certainly don't exercise enough to justify the insane calorie intake I used to be able to pull off when I was an athlete), but I'm kinda glad I did, since now I know I can get this truly insane combination any time for a pretty reasonable price! ($12 plus tax in our Canuck bucks for a small pizza, which is a ridiculously good price for something with that many toppings, and I'll easily have a couple slices left over even on a 10" small b/c I feel old and sloppy.) Mr Anchovies, you can have your way with me any time. between being able to finally get beer at a fucking grocery store and the impending super half-assed legalization of recreational grass in the next year, maybe the burbs are gonna suck marginally less overall.

I once had a pizza with pineapple, feta and olives on it. The sweet went really well with the briny/salty, so I could see how anchovies would match well there too. Might have to try that on my own.

I'm not ashamed to admit my go to pizza from a more garbage place here when I just want some cheap dinner is Pineapple/Feta/Pepperoni. The salty sweet combo really makes up for their shittier sauce/skimpy cheese.

Cheetos Sweetos
Puffy Cheetos are pretty much Baby Snape's favorite food. If you allowed it and gave her enough time, she could demolish an entire bag in a single session. So as a bit of a gag gift, her aunt got her a bag of these for Christmas, saying, "I hated these, but [my son] liked them so I got a bag for [Baby Snape]." Cheetos Sweetos. Cinnamon sugar flavored corn puffs. I decided they'd make a funny inclusion to my NYE spread, so I went ahead and put out a bowl. I was skeptical. I didn't think Baby Snape would have any interest (she rarely likes sweet things), and sure enough she refused to touch them all night. As did Mrs. Snape. So know this, Constant Reader, that the fact that the bowl was emptied can only mean one thing: I ate them all, and they were delicious. Sweetos are Cheetos that taste like Cinnamon Toast Crunch, which is one of the tastiest breakfast cereals. The only thing that stopped me from inhaling them faster is that cinnamon-sugar doesn't go very well with cheddar cheese, hummus, broccoli, prosciutto and IPA beer. But as the evening waned, drinking had stopped, and my taste for savory delights had been sated, I returned to this bowl again and again. Weirdly addictive.

I saw these at a store and was appropriately horrified. I decided last week to buy a bag anyway and take it to work with me. People (including me) have been eating them, and damn if they don't taste kind of like sparkling wine (which is to say kinda grapelike). I'm still not sure how I feel about them -- potato and grape aren't a typical flavor combination -- but they're not nearly as bad as I feared. (The counterperson told me she tried them and they disappear pretty quickly.)

So right now the flavored Oreos are chocolate hazelnut, which sounds delish, and ... hot cinnamon?
Anybody tried 'em?

Wifemate somehow got a hold of "Candy Corn White M&Ms" and boy are they gross. They're just white chocolate M&Ms with white, orange, or yellow shells, and I'm not sure if they'd be better or worse if they actually tasted like candy corn.

They DO taste like candy corn to me, which is important, because I really like white chocolate M&Ms, but the candy corn version are the hottest of garbage. To be clear, I pretty much like white chocolate anything.

To me they taste like a slightly different BBQ chip. Not bad, better than Lays BBQ or whatever, but I was hoping for more hints of ginger and garlic or something.

Not sure this necesarily belongs here, but I recently tried Dairy Queen's Snickerdoodle Cookie Dough Blizzard. Now, I'm a big fan of cinnamon, and snickerdoodles are one of my fave cookies, but this was INTENSE. The first few bites were cinnamon heaven, by the end of it was I was starting to see visions of a forest in Ceylon and speaking in tongues. It felt like they put a half of a cup of cinnamon into a half a cup of ice cream and tossed in a few cookie dough bites.
If I could order it by the tablespoon I might do it again.

I got one of those - a mini - a couple weeks ago. It was good, but it was a lot of the same thing, and I wanted some other mix-in for variety. Mine wasn't quite AS cinnamony as yours, I'm guessing you got more spice mixture mixed in.

Or I got a guy who was part of the Nutmeg Lobby trying to get me to turn on my preferred spice. Now I'm trying to imagine what other mixin might go good with it, I guess maybe chocolate brownie pieces, it wouldn't really be snickerdoodle anymore but cinnamon and chocolate are a good pairing.

Further on the spice front, I ordered Starbucks Spiced Cardamom Latte the other day, and liked it quite a bit. Not too sweet. Kinda like a nice spicy chai tea with a bit of a kick. Made me want to eat it with a gingersnap.

From the menu of the specialty donut shop around the corner:
Monte Cristo Black Forest ham, Emmanthaler Swiss cheese, and American cheese along with a house-made raspberry cranberry compote stuffed in a donut.
Hmmmm. . .

I thought this would taste terrible, but it's actually pretty decent. the slight aftertaste is a bit odd, as that's where the salty "cheesecake" type flavour comes in. I'm almost more annoyed that it tastes good, since it sounded like a fairly terrible concept. but I suppose mass produced cheesecake is widely available and not that hard to pull off.
