What is this?
Exactly what it says on the tin: I'm doing reviews of The X-Files.
Why is this?
Despite loving lots of genre TV, I've watched a surprisingly small amount of the genre TV canon, and felt like fixing that. I narrowed down my choices to this and TNG, and I figured that The X-Files was probably more up my alley. (Plus, lots of positive feedback from people on TOC.)
As for the reviews, when I started watching Angel two years ago, I posted little capsule reviews of the series on a forum I frequented, both as discussion fodder and as an excuse to get me to write something every day, think critically about media, et cetera.
Have you watched any X-Files before this? What do you know about it?
I watched the first three episodes in advance to ensure this was something I wanted to spend what may be years of my life on. (Answer: sure, why not.) Here's a full list of what I knew about the show going in:
1. Mulder believes in alien conspiracies. Scully believes Mulder is fucking insane. 2. Said alien conspiracies are 2a. real. 2b. underwhelming. 3. Darin Morgan is a god among screenwriters.
Are you going to be reviewing the whole series? All 200+ episodes?
Don't remind me!
But seriously, we'll see where I lose my patience. I identified season five and the movie as a potential exit point.
What's your policy on spoilers?
I'd like to watch this unspoiled, so I'd appreciated if you tagged any spoilers that aren't super-vague.
How often will you be posting these reviews?
I'll aim for at least once a week-- maybe more, maybe less, depending on my schedule. The pilot review should be up this weekend.

Not that anyone here especially cares, but I've written the "Squeeze" review twice only to have the internet die and eat my review. It's almost like THE MAN doesn't want you to see what I have to say about the episode! (Spoilers: I like it. I also really like "Ghost in the Machine" for some reason.)

If you find your keyboard smells fairly of cigarette smoke, it might be a good idea to disappear for a while, maybe live in the woods and keep an eye out for any sinister old men...

Our library determines how much time you get a checkout of a TV season for based on the number of discs in the collection. For the first season, we got 21 days (which required one renewal). The second season is much more efficient, though, and fits on fewer DVDs, and so we only get 7 days. It's going to take us much longer to get through season 2, because we keep having to return it.

So this has been going swimmingly - even the worst episodes of this show have some redeeming period spookiness to them.
Should I be organizing these reviews into some sort of masterpost with links to all the articles? Obviously right now it's easy to look through them, but when I have forty or so of these, with people commenting on older ones, it might be a little harder to view them in order.
