Sound Editing/Sound Mixing - She doesn't understand the difference, so she doesn't vote. I just want to point out that *I* understand the difference, and I don't work in Hollywood. The voters don't understand these categories, which is why often Oscar frontrunners for Best Picture win here, even if there are films nominated which had much better sound editing or mixing. Understanding this is how I won my only major Oscar Pool victory against hard-core Oscars watchers in 2009. This would be for 2008 films. I scored one more category win than anyone else because I picked "Slumdog Millionaire" to beat "WALL-E" and "The Dark Knight" in Sound Mixing. What is the difference between sound editing and mixing? Sound Editing is for sounds created for the film. Sound effects creation, essentially. Pretty much any type of sound that is created and added in post-production. Big war movies and water-based films often win here because nearly all the sounds have to be created in post. Sound Mixing is for the overall composition of the soundscape in the film. So, this one is about making sure the sounds are mixed correctly and all the sound levels are set appropriately throughout the film.

It kinda blows my mind that a fantasy film about a mute woman banging a Fish Man won Best Picture. I know it was the frontrunner, but..... what?
(I haven't seen it.)
Also, Roger Deakins finally won an Oscar! Wooo!
Edit: I didn't see Blade Runner, either. I basically saw about 5 total new movies in 2017. But, that doesn't matter. Roger Deakins was ridiculously overdue. He should have won about several times before.

I was rather amused that the envelopes had huge type on both sides identifying the category. They really wanted to make sure that, if someone got the wrong envelope out there, the entire planet would be able to let them know.
I'm guessing that Casey Affleck being a no-show is what prompted the Academy to move Emma Stone to Director and have the two-woman teams present Actor and Actress. Also, is Jennifer Lawrence really that tall, or is Jodie Foster really that short?
I think the right song won, but I have to say, I really liked all five of the nominees. I wouldn't have had a problem no matter who had won.
In the past, they at least ran snippets of the Honorary winners speeches. Not this year, when they all went by in a wordless montage. I'd say bring them back to the main ceremony, but the show ran nearly 4 hours. Then again, they also had a bunch of really long montages. I hope somewhere is a list of all the movies featured in order in those montages.
I didn't get home until nearly 7, then I had some stuff I had to do, then my boyfriend had to finish an ultra-depressing rerun of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (then again, they're all ultra-depressing) in the room with the DVR, so I didn't get to start watching till after 9 Central. So I had to miss the liveblog at the old country. I'll try to remember to read it tomorrow during a slow moment at work.

Also, is Jennifer Lawrence really that tall, or is Jodie Foster really that short? Google says Jennifer Lawrence is 5'9" and Jodie Foster is 5'3".

JLaw looked like that girl at the frat party whose Vegas high-heels kept getting stuck to something sticky on the carpet.

Gary Oldman should have won for Sid and Nancy, dammit.
